what to do...what to do...

I dont know all the details of this car yet, but I will be finding out this afternoon....I have spotted an early 4th gen white Z29 convertible with the awesome hugger orange stripes racing up the hood and down the trunk...this car is for sale....very sweet looking car and a weakness for me because I may be thinking about trading my 89 IROC in on it...
what are your thoughts guys?...i will be posting details and perhaps a photo or two of it once i get them.
I know that the convertibles of that generation only came with 5.0's in them...and my IROC has the 5.7...
A governing decision will be whether or not it is a 6 speed...then a decision will be very tough...
A what the hell, maybe I will buy it and keep the IROC...I don't know...what would you guys do?

Axle/Gears: Yup -- they still work

Not sure about the 5.0 only convertible comment ? I've seen both 3rd and 4th gen 350s in convertible -- I drove a 1989 5.7 4-speed auto ragtop some years back. Definitely needed structural support but a 350 nonetheless.

IMHO ? I'd keep the 3rd gen car. The 4th gen'rs are falling in price so fast it is scary. On the other hand a decent 3rd gen with any kind of special options won't be losing any value from here on in. My problem with 4th gen'rs is I look at them and say to myself "I don't get it ?" in regards the styling -- but then I remember Neil Armstrong landing on the moon so I guess that says it all for me.

have a nice day,
RP.

There were no 305s in 4th gens. The 4th gen started with the LT1 and ended with the LS1, neither is remotely comparable to the 305.

ooops

okay i goofed...it does have a 350 in it...the 30th anniversary edition car...automatic, and a little rough around the edges.
The dealer wants 26,000 for it...no thanks...
Sweet looking car nonetheless.
Final decision...keeping the kick *** IROC instead. All the reports are right, all the 4th gens did away with the 305, my mistake - however, there were never any 350 ragtop 3rd gens produced.
Thanks guys!

...continued

If Palric, you did drive a 350 ragtop, wow...but unfortunately, it had to have been installed to replace the 305...
that would be a sweet ride though, and in my opinion, the ultimate ragtop 3rd gen to own...

26,000!!! and rough around the edges... that guy is sniffing glue, maybe even swallowing it... I can get a 1999 WS6 for that much, I think...

Yah, it was candy apple red (guess that makes it a '90 ?) with the tan coloured top.

As far as I could tell the car was an original 5.7 TPI G92 packaged and not a transplant from a 305. I think there may be some debate on that on the 3rd Gen History thread ? In any event I wish I had that car now -- it was a beauty.
