Had a accident today with the bird

The back end kicked out on me and went to the left when i let the clutch out around a corner when i thought i had it straight it kicked to the right and i couldnt get back and i ran up a curb over the sidewalk and into the back of my neighbours chevy celebrity. I broke his tailllight and his bumper has come losa and the is a little crack under the taillight. My car the nosecone is cracked in 3 places and the foglight broke. Tomorrow I have to go to a body shop and get a quote for my neighbours car and get my own insurance policy for my car (its in my dads name). Looks like the bird will go for sale when i go back to work next month I cant afford $5000 insurance for it. I will have to get something more "practical". Now I have some questions

1. Do any of yo know any cheap body shops in brampton i do no want to spend a ton of money fixing this guys car i would fix it myself but my dad told me not to

2. Do you know anywhere with cheap insurance policys for young guys who like v8s

3. What would you recomend as a practical car for a 20 ear old guy

and is anybody interested in my car i dont want to sell it but i might have 2 now

Paul

YOU ARE NOT SELLING!

We'll talk this weekend buddy and I've got a broker you can call too that might be able to get you a good quote.

I'll give you a call Saturday...that cool?

Don't go through your insurance if you don't have to... The Cops weren't around were they.. Your probally better of to fix everything yourself.. Take that chevy celebrity to the body shop. And work on your when you get time... I here ya about getting raped for insurance.. I was 21 when I got T-Boned and it was my fault. Got charged with failing to yeild (Thanks ***) my insurance never really went up to much more.. But it is still on my record today and I am 27 now.. I am with Pilot insurance and they seem to be the most reasonable.. So don't sell your car wait till you see what they do for you.. did you get charged with anything?

Give yourself a few days to get over it

Hey Paul,

I remember when I was in my 20s, had an '85 IROC and one day got mixed up in a pile-up on the 401. Not my fault just in the right place at the WRONG time. Afterwards my insurance was bad but NOT AS BAD as I thought it would be and I got through it.

Give yourself a few days to get over the shock of the accident and the frustration of an insurance system that kicks you when you are down. Don't let this minor setback steal from you what your car gives you. In a few days your perspective will change.

RP.

Hey Paul, that sucks.

The boys are right, don't go through your insurance if you don't have to. It might be a PITA now to come up with the cash to fix your neighbours car, but it's better than letting the insurance company screw ya for the next 6+ years.
And what ever you do, DON'T BAIL ON YOUR T/A! Trust me you will regret it. Back in September when my '87 got stolen I swore It would be my last 3rd Gen, well, I lied. Four months later there was an '88 parked in my driveway. It will only get harder to get another one down the road. These cars are a sickness that we all have, and I say F*** THE CURE!

there were no cops and we are not going through insurance it was a minor incident but i will neve hear the end of it from my dad. He said the problem is i drive it they way he used to drive it and it is a completely different car because of the 5 speed swap. Chris Saturday is fine. My other idea is to store the car till i buy my own house (soon hopefully) buy a junker then bring the trans am to my new place and work on it there but i have no where to store it

sorry to hear about your car, but dont go through insurance. just pay to fix your neighbours car, get him a case of beer, and apologize to him. then fix your car when you have the money to do so. sure you will have to put up with your dad, but it will be worth to keep the TA. eventually your dad will let it go....you might have to drive alittle less "vigorous" for a while, but again its worth doing that so you can keep the TA. good luck with the situation.

Houses aren't bad...its the wives/gf's that want them remodelled that costs $$$

Just don't make the mistake I did, get a house that has decent space for you to work on your car. No garage, no driveway sucks

Doesn't sound like the damage to either car is that expensive.

Pay off the neighbour, do what you have to to keep your car and the rest will take care of itself.

Also, it's easier to get out of shape with a standard trans as you've found out. So yea, it is a different car.

As for insurance companies- a lot of them sell cheap policies and then make you go through hell if you ever try to collect for something serious. That's how they do business. They make it so difficult that you end up settling your claim for half what it's worth and at the end of the year they are ahead.

Also, get 2 million liability on your policy instead of the usual 1 mil. The premium is not that much extra. The standard auto policy is good for 3 million in accident benefits. That's not enough if you really do the job and the other guy ends up as a vegitable. Point is that they'll be coming after you and your house for the difference so it's better to have the extra 2 mil coverage in your policy over and above the 3 mil for accident benefits.

That's tough luck, Paul. I hope it all works out for you. Like 92Zeddar, I am also with Pilot Insurance, and their rates aren't too bad.
From the sounds of it, all you need is a new front bumper cover and a fog light. You can always find one at a wreckers, and have it repainted. No need to sell it, besides, I was hoping that when we meet up to do some 1/4 miles, that I could be against you. There doesn't seem to be too many LG4's on the board, so a little competition would be nice

don't get to depressed over this, it'll only make things worse. once your done with the other car things will look a lot better and a huge weight will be lifted off your shoulders. the old man should cut you some slac "might take a couple of days" but he'll come around and i don't think your insurance will be that high. when i was twenty, not that many years ago, less than 10 i had a 2 year old truck, got pissed, tried driving home and took out a telephone pole plus a bus stop booth. when i was alowed to drive again my insurance went from 2000 to 4000 a year, not to mention the cost to replace the pole and booth, lets just say i had to take a loan to cover that! anyway don't get rid of your car fix it and if the insurance is too high tou could always do the out of province thing.

I dont drink (pretty rare a sober irishman ) My Dad doesnt care anymore and Saturday morning the bird is back on the road and he did not cancel my insurance but i have to get my own when i go back to work. My neighbour doesnt seem to care because today we had arranged to go to a bodyshop to get a estimate and he canceled so we go on monday i think i will just give him the money that it says on the estimate then let him decide if he wants to fix it (car is a junker anyway). I will get a receipt off him in case he decides to try screw me and says that i never got the car fixed. The bird will be back in all its glory soon. Chris i will be home until 4:30 tomorow. Kev i think i might have you in the 1/4 beacuse of my 5 spd . ?The damage on the other car will not cost anymore than $250. The car is rusted to **** anyway so i doubt he will fix it he will probably just take the money. What is the out of province thing?

Things are looking up my Dad told me only to drive when i have to (no cruising for a while) and to slow down a bit. I got called back to work on thursday i go in the first week of april to sort things out then a week or two later my life gets put back on track and i bring home $1500+ every two weeks (not bad for a high school graduate) I love my apprenticship. Money to dump into the trans am again

I will keep you guys posted on what is happening

check out the new sig
