My car has started spsputtering and backfiring after I drive it a while. It idles and starts fine fut looses power after I drive it about ten miles. I have no clue what is causing this. I thought it might be the fuel pump, but would it stillstart and run normal? I have a new fuel filter and air filter. My car has left me stranded twice this week!

 

anybody? It is kind of embarassing having to bum rides with people. possibly a fuel pump relay?

 

What engine temp are you running? Fuel pump? Maybe. It almost seems your gas is boiling in the lines. I remember reading about that a while back. Dunno... Give us more details.

 

stock pump,160 thermostat,thermomaster chip, fan switch, engine runs a constant 160-170 degrees runs fine until it warms up. after warm up it spits and sputters and backfires. it still idles perfect after this crap starts. I have no clue what is going on and I am tired of getting left on the side of the road.

 

I hooked up a fuel pressure guage today and my fuel pressure drops after warm up. pressure is 40 when it is cold, but after it starts sputtering and popping it drops to 20. Is this normal? I replaced my fuel filter(again) and the relay. No help! Possibly my pump?
