TPI Problems

Hello All,

I have an annoying problem with my car. When the car is cold, it starts fine, but as you continue to drive in the first five minutes, it idles sporaticaly and will eventually stall. After restarting it does not do this anymore. The problem also appears when the engine is warm, and the car is parked for a short period of time (10-30 Min) it exhibits the exact same behavior as when cold, idling sporatically and stalling. As before, once the car is restarted, it runs fine. When this is occuring, there is a strong fuel smell right before it stalls. Does anyone have any idea as to what is the problem? If I seemed unclear in my description, ask a specific question and maybe I can be more clear.

Thanks to all,

Catmath 1911

Does it cut right out or stumble before stalling?

Take some carb cleaner and spray the inside of the throttle body sometimes the build up can screw up the idle.

Also pull the IAC motor and clean the pintel and it's bore under the TB. The method to reset the IAc is on my site.

My 87 GTA did the same thing. after hours of rechecking plugs wires, ig module, o2 sensor, Throttle position sensor, I swapped the MAF sensor off my 88 TA and it ran better than it ever had. You might get it checked before just replacing if you don't have an extra TPI car laying around. Or just sell half your organs to buy a new one. I'm not sure how to test???? But that fixed mine.

Swapped the MAF with one I already had, seemed to clear up the problem. Only time will tell.
