I know there are many different companies that have TB. What is the best TB on the market??

 

I dont think it matters much personally.

If by best you mean "MOST EXPENSIVE" then you're going to be looking at either TPiS or Ligenfelter

 

I have the BBK 52mm TB on the IROC and on the Vette and the BBK is "a little rough". I've had to machine the front opening to get the boot to slip on properly.

Recently, while in Chandler, AZ, I was at AS&M checking out their LTRs and saw their 52mm TB; it was a precision piece. If they have a 58mm TB I would suggest checking it out.

 

I have a 52mm TB from AS&M already. I figured I would post the question to see what other people think or have.Thanks

 

From my recent experience with BBK, I would advise not buying anything from them, including a 58mm TB. That is unless you want it to stick open whenever it feels like it and play games trying to get it fixed.

 

I run a Lingenfelter 58mm...no complaints from me in the 4 years I've had it. (for the price, it better be good!)

I don't think I've EVER heard a bad thing about their throttle bodies....other than they cost too much. I see they've raised their price on them too.

 

I've got the Ling 58mm tb, I bought it used though. I think it's a good piece.

 

Dont know if any of you have used it yet, but the Holley 58mm is a very nice piece.

As for BBK/Edelbrock: They advertise "fully CNC machined"... B.S.! Theirs is a cast piece that is machined.... Holley uses billet material and the WHOLE piece is CNC'd...not just the bores and gasket surfaces.

Another BBK/Edelbrock snafu is the "sealing material" that seals the butterfly's to the bore of the TB. Looks like cr*p and is a poor substitute for proper machining.

Ya, mine sticks open sometimes. How did you fix yours? Ijust put a coulpe of drops of oil on the shaft, and it goes away temporarily.

I went through the headache of sending it back to those jokers to have it fixed. That was fun
So far its been ok... so far. I cant help but think its going to do it again in the future.

I dont understand what youre referring to. When the blades are closed it looks like every other throttle body. And BBK is still listed as a separate entity, not a part of Edelcrock although they sure have the same junk parts. The 2 brothers that formed BBK still own it, but their quality and service has gone to crap over the past couple years.

 

I have the BBK/Edelbrock 52mm & haven't seen/experienced any of the problems mentioned here or any others for that matter.

 

I just purchased an Edelbrock 52mm, and I already had a BBK.... I dont know how they used to make them, but now if you look at the back side of the TB blades, they put a ring of sealing "stuff" against the blades and the bore. You actually have to open the throttle blades a bit to break it loose. Looks like "ring around the collar" (those dirty rings )

 

Well to tell you the truth, I dont know what that stuff is. I cleaned it off when I got it, may have been a mistake. The blades and bores seemed to mate just fine to me. When I got it back the second time, it had that stuff around the outer part of the blades on the back side (like a circle 1/4" wide around the back of the blade) and I left it alone this time. I dont know why its there, and I couldnt find out from them since their customer service is beyond totally useless.

 

They may not seal as well as you think... The BBK TB included a red warning card with the TB that states if you remove the material, that you will experience poor idle quality and driveability.

 

Interesting, mine had no such card in the box.

Why am I not surprised...

The factory TB doesnt seal well either, I dont see where it would be an issue.
I figure first shot of TB cleaner and that stuff is gone anyway.

 

Save your money. IF you have a 52, it flows way more than your
engine can use anyway.

 

I am just going to say what others have said, my Accel/Lingenfelter is quality second to none.
