Timing connector
Engine dies when it's disconnected ( not stumble, dies, shuts off) any clues what might cause this (can't set timing)?
Possible Module?

maybe the timing is already too far retarded, and when you unplug it, it goes so far retarded that engine won't run.
advance the dist about 5 degrees then unplug the wire and see if it stays running, if not try 5 degrees more....

Nope, as I said it just shut off.

Thanks for reply.

glad to hear you found it, just thought i'd offer an alternative.
when i bought my 91z, for whatever reason the timing was about 15 degrees retarded from where it was supposed to be. if it had been retarded another few degrees, it would have died just as you described. as it was, when i unplugged the "timing wire", it almost died.
seems like people always come back to the stock GM module when it comes to distributors....
