Go to the A/C shop and have a qualified technician discharge your system.

Call around though. GM wanted to drain mine for 30 bucks. I found another non-dealer shop that said they'd do it for free.
Course if you decide to let it go into the atmosphere.....stay the hell away. If i'm not mistaken ignited freon gas is what was used in the german gas chambers.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have Butita Brothers do it. I'd feel more safe if they did it anyway.

This is funny. Not that I am condoning letting it into the air, but how the hell is someone going to prove that you let it out into the air?

I'm so sick of these friggin Enviromental Laws I could puke. Today at my facility we had an Enviro regulator tell me that we may have to go through all kinds of fees and possible production line shutdowns because we started a new line that has, get this: .0000007 lbs/hr of (HAPS) hazardous air polutants coming off of it. We hooked the exhaust vents up to an electric percipitator that will remove 99.9% of the HAPS in good intentions. He told us that we should have just sent it out into the atmosphere through one of the stacks with nothing cleaning it and then we would not have had to pay any fees or go through any permitting procedures. doh:

After asking him 3 times and restating it myself to make sure I understood him correctly. That because we are trying to reduce HAPS we are now in greater violation that if we would have just sent it freely outside. He concurred!

I said to him....Really makes you wonder sometimes why everyone is unemployed and all the jobs are going to Mexico! I then escorted him to the door and politely told him to go to hell.

Sorry I got off on a tangent with this, but after today if I was in your shoes I would put the respirator on and let it loose.

Hope you get the A/C completed.

Good luck!

i think its funny, you can get fined for letting that stuff out into the air but um, what if u blow a hole in your condensor? doesn't it end up there anyway?

when i yanked out the AC in my GTA for the motor swap that stuff went into the air, no way i was gonna have a shop do it...too much trouble..

Do you live in Rockford Viprklr. If so we should cruss some time. get back to me. By the way I got everything off but the pump. There is a brace going to one of the header bolts, and I cant break it loose. so I figure if I just loosen the whole pulley holder thing I could slide the pump off the brace. I have to remove the smog pulley, but the pulley won't come off. I have already broke 3 sockets trying to loosen the bolts. What to do is the question? Any help would be aprieciated.

I don't have any idea where the freon went when I swapped to serpentine. I think someone came in the middle of the night and stole it. Yeah, that's it. A gang of freon thieves peddling black market freon stolen from unsuspecting cars.

Actually I live in Capron. it's about 25 minutes nw of rfd.
I used pb blaster on the exhaust manifold bracket bolt. It came right off. I haven't found anything that works better than that.
As for your smog pulley, have you tried putting a screwdriver between two of the screw heads while using your socket on the third? The screwdriver should have a flat shaft. It in effect creates a wedge.
We will have to hook up sometime. Whenever's good for me.

I used to have an 88 GTA. It was plagued with electrical problems so I ended up getting rid of it.

Thanks guys. I ended up having Butita Brothers remove my freon. Then I ripped the a/c out. The smog pump is going to come out after I get headders. For now the pump pulley is off and the belt clears it, I also removed the pump's relay box. Man that really cleared up my engine compartment. I can feel the power too.

Heh. If you lived in my neighborhood, you wouldn't have to ask. Lets see, I've had the home owners association called on me three times for 'working' on my cars. Nevermind that the majority of the work is done in my garage, with the garage door shut. In the latest incident, my formula was idling in the driveway when the radiator blew sky-high. I was NOT working on it. Yet the guy across the street... was out in his front yard... taking pictures!!! For evidence against me, I suppose.
Thank gawd that Mr. Photographer wasn't around a few weeks later when I accidentally tore a hole in the condenser during a cam swap. Because the garage door had to be opened because of the fumes. Granted, it was R134 that came out, and my neighbor is clearly too dumb to know what I was doing anyway. But I'm just sayin, things can happen...

It's proven that Freon and many other gasses aid in the deterioration of the O-zone,but global warming is a hard theory to press when we've had such cool summers the past few years.
Last week we had 3 nights that the temp went down to 32* or below.Sounds like global cooling to me.I think they're just trying to keep people from using their potato guns, but that's just my opinion.
