I was looking as well, only thing I could come up with but havent done, is getting a second set and then cutting the 2 in half, or almost, one cut a little higher than half way from the bottom and the other a little lower than half way from the top and welding them together get a little creative with a grinder to make it look right and then cover the whole thing with some carbon fiber cloth give it that extra custom look, on my set up with 1.6 RR. I think I would need 3/8" at most to clear everything with no problems, but figured might as well go half inch to make sure.

I cant speak from experience on this just yet, but I was told that you can use the stock valve covers with the 1.6's, and the only aftermarket valve covers that can be used are the Moroso polished aluminum ones. I got those and if you look at the tubes for the centerbolts you can see the machining done to em for clearance. I have seen guys with the pro magnims from comp cams. try a search using "roller rockers"

Here's what I have. I don't have 1.6's but I can't imagine these not working. Unfortunately the box only says SB Chevy Valve Covers and a sticker that says Muscle Products # 6047. That's as much brand info as I can find but I've seen alot of people with these. You could prob. find them without too much trouble. They cost about $170.00

I have seen the covers ryn28 has at the swap meets, the guys that sell all the new crome tin. always have those taller ones. or if you want to keep it stock looking Gm performance has the addapters for using the old style valve covers on our heads but, I think they could work as a spacer.

Will tall covers have any clearance issues on tpi cars with things like the brake booster? The guy who built my engine said he had an 88 iroc and could not fit tall covers on due to clearance issues (not hood clearance).

I have a TPI 355 and my friend thinks that I will have clearance issues with the tall valve covers. I think it'll be just fine. I'll find out after I get 1.6 rr's.

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys, but wouldn't a set of roller rockers that would fit under the stock valve covers be cheaper than buying rockers AND valve covers?

Check out Street & Performance www.hotrodlane.cc, I have AFR heads and GM 1.6 Roller rockers. The stock valve cover did not work, so I got mine form Street & Performance they are polished aluminum and are not cheap ($250) They look great, are very nice quality, and are machined to work with roller rockers, they are a little taller than the stock valve covers. I have no clearance problems, but I do not have my AIR system anymore to get in the way.

Check www.expressauto.zoovy.com , this is where I got mine at and they were only $120. They are tall, center bolt, & and ball milled.

I purchased my tall, aluminum, plain valve covers from summit in March of this year. Part Number TRD-6986, cost 112.39 set.

I too purchased crane gold roller rockers, non self-aligining off of Ebay. Mine are 1.5 and combined with the guideplates wouldn't fit under the stock covers.

Now the motor is in the car the fit is VERY tight; of course the superam doesn't help either.

If I had it to do over, would have ordered some comp cams roller rockers that would fit under the stock covers.

Looks like any future engine work is going to be a b*tch.

Just my op.

I have a set of the standard height ones like his and with my setup (Crane Gold 1.6 RRs, with guideplates), the corners of the VCs were too rounded. The corners of the end rockers of each end were hitting the VC. It wasn't a matter of the height of the roof of the VC, it was the shape of the ends of it. It wasn't major contact or anything, but it meant I could not run them (they possibly could have been ground open a bit where the contact was.......). If you have full RRs, I would be wary of those style VCs - even if they are tall.

Oh yeah, and my setup fits under the stock VCs no problem - WITH polylocks too.
