first time at the track for my firebird

here is the numbers first
60 foot 2.19
1/8 mile 9.02
1/8 mile 79.69
1/4 mile 13.82
1/4 mile 104.00

i am just wondering how much the stock cat back exhaust and stock air intake is hurting the times .
my car is a 92 formula L98 that is 140,000 mile stock except
for a vortech head swap , modified intake runners , ported plenum , slp headers , comp cam 276hr -14 camshaft . still has stock torque converter and gears . i know the torque converter is my biggest current problem , but just curious as to how much people gain on a cat back kit and cold air intake in HP and track times ...

hey turbo, you should have big gains with a cat back, cause with your set up you got pretty of air flow and fuel, but no room for it to exit. You kinda of the did your mods alittle backward, most people get a catback first, then headers mustless heads and cam,but hey its all good cause a catback is easy to slap on. You should have big gains, once you get your free flowing exhaust completed. I ll tell you this, it won't hurt your time any So it will be well worth your time. Now the torque converter, that will hurt your time if you don't use slicks that is

LMFAO! That sure is stock alright!

But seriously, a good cat back and cold air will get you 1-2 mph at the track. But I'd rather get a good torque converter (Vig or Yank) and sticky tires. That would be easy low 13s!

any thoughts on a mellow sounding exhaust that
will flow enough ??
anybody used a torque converter from a syclone/typhoon
or any other factory converters from v-6 applications ??
my typhoons torque converter will flash to 2600 rpm ..
the stock one in my formula flashes to 1425 according to
my datamaster ...

The Sy/Ty converters are nice. Especially if you have the part number and can get them from GM factory direct. I picked up a GN D5 torque converter from GM, new in the box for less than any aftermarket converter I found for my 200-4R setup. The Sy/Ty converter was highly praised when i was looking into getting the 700R4.

Stock he says...I wish I was that stock. Stupid, lousy, paycheck...oh well, I could just stop paying the mortgage.

IMHO, you should concentrate on getting your 60' times down right after the cat-back. With all the torque these motors put out, a good set of Drag radials (BFG's) will help out considerably. I've seen STOCK suspensions hit 1.80 60' with BFG's. Also, that converter has got to go. I just bought a 2500 TCI from a fellow TGO'er and am sitting by the mail box with angst an verve! I'll post the results when I run it.

Lates,
JD

P.S. the afore mentioned mods are primarily for the track, but "I live my life at quater mile at a time".

OH NO, did I just quote a certain crappy pseudo-movie called "The slow and the Ignorant"? Somebody please electronically slap me, NOW!!

here is the answer to a couple questions :
i had an accident with the car falling off a
floor jack damaging the oil pan so while i was
working on the motor "i worked on it"
the poor 60 foot times is not due to traction
problems but the camshaft and intake runner
mods ( i don't have individual runners , i have
4 oval runners i made from the plenum to base )
the car needs a torque converter to get into the
power band

Your trap speed is good for low, low 13s. I'd get the converter first, it'll get you there the quickest. With sticky tires of course.
