190 or 195's?????
O.K. Help me out, this may be a little dumb but I need some input.
I am rebuilding my engine and can not decide which size heads to go with. I have a 91 TPI 350 Z28 with a T56. I have the SLP runners ported plenum, accel intake, Nx 20920 kit on the way. I have ordered all new forged internals also. My plans are to have a strong engine that can hold its own with out the juice and only use it when needed.
I cant decide on which size heads to get. I talked to AFR direct and they recommended the 190's but hearing from most of you guys, im thinking the 195's are the way to go.
Since I am stationed in Germany Im trying to have a all around set up. Not just a 1/4 mile runner, it needs to be able to run on the Autobahn also
I am trying to get the comp. to 10:1. Are the 190's more for torque and low end?
Help a Army grunt out....

rocc4u hey how you doing?? Remember me?? Ive got the blue 92 Z28 convertible? We met at the AAFES car show last year. Anyways, If you cant decide on which one to go with always go with the smaller of the two. Same thing with cams. The 190's would be the better choice here I think. Take care!!
The 195's really dont start to offer benifits untill they are at lifts that I seriously seriously doubt you'll be running on the street. And it will cost you flow volocity due to the larger runners.
190's will be just fine.

They are basically the same head...AFR has the 195's to match up to a Edelbrock Victor Jr. Intake....that is the only difference.
The flow is almost identical...

For now go with the 190's, I think there is more of a selection with the 190's also.
My 190's have been ported and they are now 207cc's. If you want to port them later, you can open them up to whatever you want.
No big deal.

The decision between these two heads is based solely on the intake you are running. The 195's have a taller port to fit intakes such as the victor/victor jr. If your intake has standard height ports, go with the 190's... if it has tall ports go with the 195's.
I run AFR 195's on my car with a Victor Jr. If you try to run these heads with a standard height port intake you may run into issues trying to seal the top of the port.

He thanks you guys, I have done a little more research and the 190's are the way I am going. I have the Accel intake and SLP runners. I am still debating on how far I should open them up also. They come with just the top cut about a inch down I know there has been alot of discusion on this topic also, I will have to do some more lookin.
Hey Randy how is everything going for you? Did you get out? Hows the car running?

I got them through Summit last year around this time. Summit had a 10% off discount thing going so I got them for about $900 (they are the ones with the .540" lift springs, non-CNC'd).
I purchased the AFR 190's and I am very happy with their quality and performance. I was told by the representative at AFR that the 195's will simply not fit on a TPI intake, the port height is just too high. But I think I have heard guys on saying that they run the 195's on a TPI setup. Anybody know the true answer here?
