How difficult would it be to swap a 350 TPI in place of a 305TBI on a 91' Camaro??
I'm interested in making the swap but how difficult would it be?? As far as bolting on accesaries like steering pump, A/C, alt and so on is it just a matter of swapping from one motor to the other, will the brackets from my 305 fit the 350?? What about throttle cable and TV cable are they the same as used with the TPI? Mainly what I'm concerned with is can I just pull my TBI 305 and install a 350TPI and just bolt everything right up or are there differences between the 2 motors. I know the computer won't work, will I have to buy a new computer or can I just replace the chip so that it will work with a TPI. I also know that a new wiring harness will be needed.

You will need the computer & engine wiring harness from the TPI car as well as the alternator bracket. The best option is to get everything from a donor car. 305 TPI uses the same parts as a 350 with the exception of injectors, PROM & knock sensor.

I did it in my '89....305 TBI to 350TPI...but I didn't do it all at once or have a donor car....it's pretty easy, just a lot of $$$. You will need the things he said above...but I didn't need a different alternator bracket?? I've heard some people say you do, some say you dont, i didn't. You will need of course the motor w/ TPI and TPI accessories, wiring harness, computer, TPI fuel pump, kickdown cable, acc. cable, knock sensor....that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Like he said...be a lot easier to get a donor car.

also make sure you get a engine harness out of a 90-92 TPI car it'll make life much eazier.beleve me i just put a 89 5.7 TPI in my 91 5.0 TBI car.very time and monye consuming but in the end it'll be well worth it.

I have spent well over $5,000 on my swap, but not much is stock and I did not have a donor car. The harness was bought new from GM and was really easy to swap.
