What??? 2 Different Super Ram Plenums??
I wrote to the Accel tech dept. about my wiper motor no longer fitting since I installed my Super Ram. I already tried flipping the motor mounts and trust me when I tell you it wouldn't fit even without them all together.
Anyways Accel gets back to me today and tells me that there are 2 different Super Ram plenums and that the 1 for the F-Body is 1 inch shorter (2 inch instead of 3 inch) than the standard one.
Anybody heard of this? Will the smaller plenum cut down on my airflow/volumetric efficiency? Should I sacrifice power just for a stupid wiper motor??!!

My Super Ram is close to the wiper motor, but it still fits. There was only one type when I ordered it from Lingenfelter on 6/2000.

I have an 89 wiper motor. The 87 and older fit because they don't have delay and the plug comes out on the other side, but I want to keep my delay.
And yes I do mean NO clearance at all. The only option I have found so far is the kit at www.detroitspeed.com but I can't swing spending over $300 on a damned wiper motor kit.

My 90 has the delay wipers and the motor clears the plenum by about 1/2" with the rubber feet swapped to the outside. The plenum for the 4th gen LT1 cars is lower.
Maybe there is a smaller factory motor you could swap it out for.

Mine clears an '87 wiper motor (that has delay), and I didn't need to mess with the rubber mounts at all. I have about half an inch clearance also.
Since these things are cast, they are all a little different. Maybe you just go one that is just "off" enough.
Good luck.

Ordering another plenum is a possibility, but that could leave me with 2 plenums that don't fit or 1 that does and 1 that doesn't if I can't return the original one. Plus I would like to try and figure it out without taking that thing off for a third time....although I'm getting much better at it!
Could it be possible that my wiper motor casting is slightly too large??

Yeah, I would look into a different wiper motor, maybe there are some with delay that are smaller. Paul...How long is your plenum from front to back?

I have had the same problem with the SR. I took the rubber inuslators off the wiper motor completely and the SR still touches the wiper motor right where the plug is. The SR is in an 89 ontop of a 408 with just new stock motor mounts.
A few years ago I have heard people having problems with the wiper motors getting in the way. My temp solution was cutting the plug almost completely off and and taking the female side of the plug apart and running each individual wire into the male part on the wiper motor itself. Looks like ****, but it works as a solution right now.
Might not be able to see the it in the pics to well but you can look here to see what I did:

Thanks for the ideas but I don't want to go hacking up my wiring harness or factory motor yet. I e-mailed the company I got my SR from to see if they will send me another plenum.....hopefully I will hear back in a day or two.
As far as getting the measurement of my plenum....it will be a few days because the car is back at the paint shop being buffed out and having the decals/stripes applied.
Does anyone know if there are any other GM wiper motors that would have the same 2 connections as my factory unit?

The harness is not hacked up on my car. Just the reciever plug on the wiper motor. I can still put the plug back to together on the harness side.

Im bringing this post back from the dead after doing a search. I have the energy suspension replacement motormount biscuits and yes they are in the right way. My car is a 92 B4C (same as Z28). There was atleast an inch of interference which has been reduced to about 3/4 inch by doing the bushing trick. If I unplug the motor it leaves about 3/8ths of an inch still to come up with. Im faced with two obvious options both seem kind of severe. one is to remove the plug and cut down the wipermotor side of the plug receptacle. this would require that I hard wire the wiring to the motor. Option two is very severe and requires that I have a friend at a shop sections and weld the thing and have it polished to cover up the work afterwards. I think this will give me all the clearance I need, anyone come up with a better solution? Maybe a different year or model of wiper motor that offers more room? suggestions needed badly before I do major crazy surgery to make this fit...

I didnt screw myself yet as my plenum is merely polted together properly but using only about 8 fasteners for mock up purposes. you think I need to get rid of my ES mounts to resolve this? I guess I could go buy some new anchor brand stock ones slip them and call it good? anyone else?

Phew.. Well thats good. Well I went back to the stock mounts and my plenum still touches, but not bad. The ES was so high my TB was hitting my hood (firebird hood)

I had the same issue with my car. I also have polygraphite motor mounts. I just cut part of the connector off of the wiper motor if I remember correctly. There is a very small clearance for mine now, but I've been driving it a year with no problems. Don't forget, the motor torques away from the wiper connector anyway.

I have the poly motor mounts on my car and I had to grind the back of the plenum down, it’s really thick back there and I was able to take off about 3/8 with my die grinder.
I also had to cut the wiper motor faceplate down some too.

Too bad you guys are having a hard time with this, all I had to do was pull the grommet off one corner and it cleared.

I just dropped my motor in yesterday. Had the wiper motor unbolted when the motor was dropped in. It does look damn close with the SR in place. I am just going to leave it out and pull the wipers off Vs. toying with it. I do however live in Phoenix AZ and it might rain 12 or so times a year here so it is not all that critical to me, thank ***! However getting the AC system back up and running to fight the 105-110 degree summer wheather will be a challenge, dammit!!!

I should have taken a pic before I put the plenum on the motor, but here it one as it sits.
If you look close you can see how much I ground off the backside, it's close but just enough room to clear.

Did you install the plenum and runners while the motor was in the car? I dropped mine in complete, put it together on the stand first

I almost did that but I was waiting on parts to put mine on other wise I would have had to make a "where is the cheapest place to buy a wiper motor" post LOL

I put the SuperRam on after the motor was in the car, I wanted to move a lot of the wires and that would not have been possible to do with the plenum on the motor.

Forgot to mention that! I layed down the TV cable and hooked up wires to my blocked off EGR, yes the EGR valve will clear the SR plenum with a block of plate underneath it, along with the vaccum lines, and of sourse the IAT. I dropped in the new motor along with a new trans at the same time so the TV cable didnt spoil my plan.
It was enough fun putting the damn thing together on the stand, I will reserve an on car teardown or install for a need be situation, hopefully that never comes to be.

Your gonna ditch the poly mounts? That trade off sucks, *** damn Superrams! I think back to the 20 hrs of porting, loosing the wipers, cleaning the used parts I bought, and spending alot of time bolting it together and I figure I just should have went Stealthram. Not, the Superram makes the best average numbers under 6000rpm, priceless for a street car. Ill take a few trade offs as well.

thats why I got an HSR for my 91 drag car project. Besides I like to tear up or tear into my chit once in a while, you think I really wanna hassle with the superram on the race car 'blech'
Just for S's & G's I put the HSR ontop of the cruisers 412 for a picture

Hi , here I am 17 years later. Was it ever confirmed that there were 2 different size plenums? Just curious as I am getting back into this and making some changes to the car.

Holy old thread Batman, lol! All these years of owning one i never knew there were 2 different plenums! Is there a way to tell the difference? The one on the motor in my 91 hit the wiper motor, so i just cut the mounting bushings down for clearance
