I'm pretty sure, this isn't suppose to happen, but it does.

I'm pretty sure, this isn't suppose to happen, but it does.

While attempting to make sure my fuel delivery problems really are in the tank I pulled the fuel filter off. And the gas never stopped coming out. The harness at the tank was unplugged so the pump shouldn't of been running. Is the pump just stuck in an open position? I'm only getting 20-30 psi (kinda varies in what mood it's in). So far I've replaced the relay and the regulator. And I'm pretty sure the line between the fuel filter to the engine isn't blocked. Or at least, isn't now.. Any advice appreciated!

I had the same problem, did you try bleeding it off at the schrader valve first?

Yeah, I did that, a little gas came out from that side, but then it stopped. On the side coming from the tank though it never stopped flowing. It wasn't like shooting out or anything, but a steady small stream of gas.

Take your gas cap off, you may have a little pressure built up in the tank, especially if the car is sitting in the sun.

Its called gravity.

Know how a siphon tube works? Same concept. Get a nice air bubble in that line and it'll stop running out.

Laws of physics are grand aren't they?

Gravity + vacuum = never ending flow of gas

well it may stop flowing... but it'll cost ya $20 of 92 octane

Ok, I thought of the gas cap thing and I did that and gas still came out. When I changed my filter a month or 2 ago it didn't do this.

madmax, actually, I've never had to siphon anything, so I don't know. How would I go about getting an air bubble in the line?

And am I wrong on thinking that if the pump was off it should prevent this flow of gas?

Yes

The pump is like a little turbine, there's still plenty of room to flow through the blades if theres suction coming from the other end.

Some times you just can't get around this, I'm quick about disconnecting the fuel tank side and i blug it with a golf Tee, then I go about disconnecting the opposite side, then take the new filter and connect it to the engine side, and then pull the Tee and quickly connect the line to the filter.

When I did mine I just tried to be quick about it and I lived with the fuel running out of the line and into a drain container that I then dumped back into the tank.
