That should give you an idea of whats involve and the cost. Its not worth swapping unless you are running 12s or are big into chip burning.

Depends on what you consider "worth". I converted my MAF to speed density for no money and 4 hours of my time. Obviously it helps to have that stuff laying around, and I did the conversion while I was at work (I had a boring job with lots of free time back then).

I can't see a conversion costing more than $60 if you get boneyard parts (computer, MAP sensor) and you re-pin your MAF harness.

BTW, don't try it if you can't read an electrical diagram.

I re-pinned my harness using that exact link that BitchinCamaro gave. It's a bitchin site; my hat's off and a big ol' thanks to Mike Davis.

psssst..... Some of us MAF guys are working on an all 'software' change to MAP without having to go to the 730 ECM and repin the connectors of the harness or get a different harness..... This process will only require three minor wire changes to accomodate a MAP sensor instead of a MAF sensor, but is basically all done with the use of a different mask for the ECM. There are people out there that have it up and running successfully already..... Check out the DIY-PROM board for more info .

There are a few turn offs to it though.

like it being all metric based

no more "22 lb/hr" injector constants

You'll have to do conversions to figure out what you're changing and what you're changing it to.

Oh, you yanks are wimps, you should've gone to metric a long time ago like the rest of the world.

The other problem that I've noticed is that it doesn't support the AIR stuff... but if you leave those wires disconnected it should just dump to the cat all the time... no big deal.

Yeah, I saw that. I personally wouldn't be interested unless there was a way to use BOTH MAF and MAP sensors and have them co-exist harmoniously. Otherwise, it was just too easy to simply re-pin the harness and swap computers. I don't know why people make such a big deal out of the re-pinning. It was pie.

Co-existance would be nice but the reason to change is that the
MAF only reads up to a certain amount of air and it don't take long
until you exceed it's capabilities.

And from what I understand, the SD is easier to burn proms for.

Burning proms is something that I really need to get into.

Repinning looks easy, finding or buying a 730 is expensive!

I repinned my 870 to a 165 without a hitch.

I desperatly want to go to SD and have been searching for a harness forever. I think going through 2 repins will leave me with to much of a rats nest to try to figure out in a pinch.

I repinned mine twice and have no poblems. Take your time and don't bend up the pins. You will be fine.
