BIG PROBLEM! Need help

OK I just installed a new fuel pump. The gas guage works when key is on, but buries the needle when the car is running. Now just a couple of minutes ago the car just died out of the blue. No sign of struggle, just quit. Now when I turn the key to on positon the service light doesnt come on and the fuel pump doesnt kick in. The car still cranks good. What the hell happened? Need help ASAP!!! Just when I'm selling the f*cken thing.

It is the fuel guage. Now I found the fuse by the battery was blown so I replaced it and turned the key to on position and the service light came on for a second before the fuse blew again. The fuel pump is a holley/walbro pump. Now something is shorting out. Is it the fuel pump wires? And why is my guage only work with car off and in on position, Then when car runs its buried? Its gotta be a ground someplace, but where? I Sold the car and I need this fixed very soon.

I would first disconnect the plug at the tank and see if there is still a short. it sounds like something may be messed up at the sending unit. also I think it will peg. the fuel gauge when disconnected. (not sure with out looking)

Yea, sounds like a short in the wiring to the tank, or the pump
ground is hooked to or grounded to one of the sending unit wires.
