ok, help with cam choice please.
ok, help with cam choice please.
i know its been posted b4, and i did a search but couldn't find what i needed. here we go......
i need to choose a cam for a iron head L98. i've been looking into the LT4, but i think there is more work involved in terms of machining than i want to tackle. if i am correct i need new springs (both taller and stiffer) and i will need to have the seats machined out b/c they are also a little bigger in diameter. is there any other things that need to be done? please let me know what will be involved in this swap.
i've also been looking into the comp cams 268XE. i believe the lift comes in at .480. when looking at cams, when do i know that a different spring is needed and how do i choose the right spring?
thanx

Valve springs is a relationship of assembled height, desired pressure, max lift, coil bind, type of lifter, lb per inch (spring rate) and your cams lift.
Come with all those numbers and I'll show you how to get the right spring.

I'm running a 355cid TPI motor, and for a cam I have the Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 264HR, @.050'' 212int 218ext, .488'' .495'' lift, and i'm running vortec heads. Along with jet hotted hedman hedders and three piece pulleys....plus so much more, anyway the cam is awesome, nice and choppy at idle but still with enough vacum to sit in traffic even with the 110 lobe seperation. I also used the recommended valve springs, I have no problems at all with any idling and when i am in traffic people look, cause the idle really barks through the hedders.
