hi can any one tell me why my auto box is so high geared the car is a 1986 camaro z28 305 ci with auto box 700r4 the reves are at 3000 and the car is at 120 mph how can this be

Sounds about right. Though that's mostly your rear-end gear. In 86, 2.77 was the most common rear-end gear. My 86 will do 80 at about 2000, but I always looked at the road and the rear-view mirror more then the tach at 120mph

It's not high geared. Third is direct drive (1:1) which is what most final gears are, and the overdrive is .70:1 which is on average, lower than most overdrive transmissions. And the 700R4's 1st gear is more agressive than most GM transmissions.

The 700R4 is, however, reknowned for it's incredibly wide 1-2 ratio gap.
