i'm not sure but i think mine needs to be recharged..........anyone know what is involved? do i "have" to go somewhere and if so how much should i be looking at?
i don't want to get rid of it since not having t-tops it's nice to have some cooling factor.......but lately it hasn't been really cooling any.

Never done it.
If you have r-12 then you may have to take it in to get it either done or converted to r-134.
r-12 is hard to come by. according to autozone it's worth about 28 bones a can but you can only buy it if you're licensed.
r-134 you can buy just about anywhere and you should be able to do it yourself. I believe even wal-fart has a conversion kit.
If you do convert make sure you drain ALL the old stuff out.

If your system is not cooling, you probably have a leak somewhere and need some r-12. Usually, people forget to run their AC periodically and the seals in the compressor get dry or just go bad and leak. I would have someone leak test the system before you spend the money on filling it up.
If you need any kind of repair (like a new AC compressor because the seals are shot), THEN I would recommend switching to 134a. You will still need to change your accumulator, put a new orifice tube in, flush the system and change the seals before pulling a vacuum and filling with 134a and the correct oil. It is not as easy as "If you do convert make sure you drain ALL the old stuff out".
