Help a 17 year old girl get her car running
I have a 1986 chevy camaro 305 tpi Iroc-z. I drove threw a big puddle like 3 days ago. And the car stalled out and I got stuck. Then finally after pushing it out it restarted. Then it was running fine. Then the car acted like it ran out of gas. It gets no fuel to the rails so I changed the relay, still no fuel. I also jumperd the G terminal to see if the fuel pump would give power or fuel, still nothing. I refuse to think that my fuel pump went. Would there be any thing else that could be causing this. Please please help!!!
Please e-mail me at camarochic33063@yahoo.com
Thanks a bunch !!!!

Whatcha looking at?
No power huh? How much gas did you have in the tank? I found that I thought I had enough in it (Like almost 4 gallons) but that wasn't enough.
My advice is if you are getting no power your pump is dead.

I had a similar problem with my 87 Formula. The Gas gauge would read in excess of 1/4 tank, but there would be no gas in the tank. Put some more gas in it and see what happens.
Have you tried by-passing the relay? You should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn your key top the "On" position. If it doesn't start after you check all of this, you have to gank the rear and replace the pump.

does any one know of
Is there any one in the ft. lauderdale area that can do a fuel pump cheap. Cause I don't have a lot of money. I'll buy the fuel pump I just need it in. thanks a bunch!!!:hail: :lala: Some friend you are!
I just Did it Twice for the same friend In the course of a week
IN all actuality, Its not all that bad. The second time was with air tools and My other friend to Help Me. Had it out in abou 15 minutes.
Apart from wating for parts, whole job was done in about 1 hour.
If the pump isnt kicking on, Its either dead or there is a voltage problem upstream.
Regardless if there is enough gas in the tank or not.
Use a DMM and check for voltage with the key in the on position at the 3 wire connecter, on the brown wire with the white stripe.
If you want, you Can pull around a bit at the carpet between the two rear seats and use that to get at it without getting under the car.
Still the brown wire with the stripe. The black is ground and the Pink is for the fuel sender.
If your not getting voltage, or getting insufficent voltage, something is fuxored upstream of the pump.
If your getting 11+ v at that point, I would be willing to bet the pump is gonzo.
Don't drive through puddles

Go over to Fl-thirdgen.org, I know there are a couple guys in your area who would probably stop by and help you figure out for sure what the problem is for sure. Also ask around for a shop on the regional boards. Just make sure whoever does it drops the tank and doesn't just cut a hole in your floor pan.
The tank isn't so bad to drop, especially if there isn't much gas in it. The "hardest" part of it all is getting the fuel neck back up in the hole when reinstalling. A bottle jack and a 1' X 1' piece of 1/2" plywood make the job much easier. If you had all the parts right there the job could be done in a couple of hours.
A quick question, how deep was that puddle? And did you pull out the air filters after you went through it to make sure the car didn't injest water? If it injested water, then you probably fried the MAF too

I will assume that you are not getting an SES light.
First check, do you hear the fuel pump "prime" for 2 seconds when you first turn on the key?

Anyway... my old man had that problem once, turned out the force of the water going under the car disconnected a relay.

ive been through a few "puddles" that were deep enough to float the rear of the car..it stuttered a little bit and idleed rough for about 30 seconds and the clutch was hard to engage but then it was fine..
id say check the air filter and hope u didnt fry the maf..then check the relay behind the rear seats and hope thats your problem...
and put some more gas in it to find out...
my pump went south and cut through the rear hatch area to change it....my exhaust is welded at the cats so i couldnt disconnect it so i had to, but my buddy arc welded it so u cant even tell

Before you go rippin' the fuel pump out, check the fuse at the front of the engine bay, it's mounted on the radiator support just behind the driver side headlights. It's a little black box with 2 heavy orange wires coming off of it, if that fuse is blown your fuel pump will not get power.

What kind of F-Body owner in their right mind would drive thru a puddle? I mean, I avoid any water in the road, not just the deep puddles.

, and with 9" of ground clearance over the rear differential I fear no puddles. If she did get any trouble codes before it died though, it might be worth renting a code reader to see if there are any clues there as to what needs to be fixed. But it does sound like the pump, sucks, but sometimes the PITA jobs are necessary. Supreme Member
