How should I expect the car to run on a stock prom with new motor?
Im in the process of building a motor for my car 6" rod 355, 10.5:1 comp. CC305 cam (220/230 .510/.510 114LSA) LT1 intake, AFPR, ported heads, and stock L98 Injectors.
I am starting to look into Prom burning (I do not have the equipment yet ( spending all my money on the motor) Does anyone think my car will be somewhat drivable for possibly a month before I can get the equipment to start the Prom burning.
I will not be driving the car hard (under 50% throttle) Will the Idle be decent?
Sorry for being so vauge. but I dont know what to expect out of it.
Thanks Chris

SD is the less forgiving of the two. I would not expect you to be able to drive it around very easily. It might start up and idle, but apart from that you will need to tune it asap.

Been there. Done that.
It will run poorly. If you want to make it idle, you can just try manually bumping up the idle speed to about 1000 rpm by usin that idle stop screw in the TB.

well would it be safe to drive to school (1 mile), and to work (3 miles)???? Would I run dangerously lean, or so rich that black smoke would come out of my exhaust?

With that cam, you're going to run very rich at idle, eyes-tearing-up rich. I did with my LT4 HOT cam and the stock chip. Black smoke will come out when you rev the throttle. Get yourself a chip programmer right away. Also, dont even think about using the stock 22 lbs injectors, they wont provide enough fuel once you get it tuned. You'll need at least 24 lbs, and probably 30 lbs with that setup.

I completely agree with Kevin 91Z, as always. I have a similar cam on stock heads and TPI and I run a bit rich at idle most of the time. Then at cruise on the highway I get an SES code for running lean. I am using 22#'ers. I also just burned the ARAP.bin and ran it today for the first time. The car almost idles without the aid of the gas pedal by itself.
Look into chip programming
You'll be happy you did.

so there is no way the stock injectors can handle it? even if i keep it under 3500 ? I have to pay off some of my engine stuff before I can get new injectors. I will try and get a programer ASAP. Is there any suggested bins to start out with? does anyone know where I can d/l one to get my engine started? and what is going to be the first things i need to work on to get it to run decent? VE tables, spark tables??
would radio shack have a programer?
I know this should kinda be on the DIY prom board. sorry

Pick up some used 24# LT1 injectors for $75 or so.
Read the "Intro to PROM burning" tech article for more info. You'll need to lower the values in the VE tables to start with.
For a 350 automatic with speed density, use the AUJP bin.

Wow, you guys amaze me. I was about to post a similar topic. I guess I can maybe get by with it for right now, but I'm gonna need a chip sooner than I thought. I'm going L98, ported irons, hotcam, LTs, ported TPI, and all the other boltons on my website. Gotta get a chip now. Thanks again guys. This is the info I like to hear!
