LT4 Hot cam w/350 TPI

Well I'll be swapping to a 350 TPI pretty soon. I've already done my share of research and have carefully picked out all the performance parts I plan on installing, but I'm still not sure about a cam. I've been doing some searching and have found the LT4 Hot Cam to be a popular choice. Just a few questions I hope you guys can help me out:

1. (Most Importantly) Is the LT4 cam emissions legal???
2. Would I have to burn my own chip???

I'm pretty sure about #2 since it's a SD 90-92 engine, but #1 I have no idea. Also, does anyone have any sound samples or just a description of what this cam sounds like at idle? I'm considering using this cam with TFS 23* heads. I would greatly appreciate any help with this topic...

BTW, if the LT4 cam is not emissions legal, what do you guys recommend instead???

It doesnt have an EO number to make it officially smog legal, but its mild enough to pass smog pretty easily. I definitely needed a custom chip with my setup. Get the stuff to do it yourself, its a lot easier and better.

re:q

Kevin, haven't talked to ya in forever! Anyways, I'm putting my hotcammedL98 in tomorrow. LB9 came out tonight. Any pointers for me? Think I'm gonna run about 8-10* base timing, ~ 48psi fuel , and try to see how it runs on the stock(hypertech) chip for right now. Custom one is coming soon. How did yours run on the stock chip? At least driveable? Also, did you just reset your minimum air/idle??? I'm afraid I'm gonna try starting it and it won't even run. Will this happen? LOL Thanks ALOT, you've helped a ton over the last year!

As I said in the other thread, it was eyes-tearing-up rich. It would sputter and die if you gave it gas. The idle was very rough and lumpy. And no it wasnt driveable.
After about a week of chip-burning (including learning time) I got it almost perfectly running. I had it driveable the 2nd night.

Hey kevin, YOu replyed with the "eyes tearing rich" on my post. What did you have to modify first? VE tables? Also, This will be a new motor. and my friend tells me that an overly rich condition is not good on a new motor (makes it harder for the rings to set) is this true? Are there any other things that cna be harmed by running rich? Should I try and get a bin to start off with? like if somebody could let me use a bin with a larger than stock cam. Just to get me up and running. I have ordered some flash chips, and a ZIF socket from Craig Moates. And im about to order the Pocket programer.
Thanks for your help.
Chris
