MSD 6A or 6AL

I have an L98 (350CID) automatics trans. I know the 6AL comes with the rev limiter. I've seen on other threads that you don't need the 6AL for automatics. Is that true? Does my ECM already have a rev limiter? Want to protect my motor.
Thank for the help.

There is still a concern for overrev with an auto if you manually shift your car (like most everybody does when racing) If you're really economically minded there's money saved buying a 6a, but first time you blow your engine you'll wish you had a 6al. Just depends on what fits your needs.

the 6AL is a soft touch rev limiter and would do it a whole lot cleaner than an ecm would (fuel cut off) if it had one.

Thanks. Iroc.
So, I don't have a rev limiter on my 91' L98?

The ECM does have one, but its set at like 10,000RPM..
