Im about 3 wires from getting my car running again. I was just wondering how many miles you guys have on your lt1 intakes. Im just curious how reliable these things are. Just looks like a pita now if for some reason the intake leaks or something.

I have close to a year and 12,000 miles on my LT1 intake. No problems.
As for the "PITA" thing, it couldn't be farther from the truth. I can have that intake completely off inless then 30 mins. Lets see you TPI guys/gals do that.

this may be a stupid question, but does the LT1 intake give more power than the TPI one? do you have to get the lt1 plenum and everything, or just the intake?
The lt1 is one single piece, and yea it makes more power in the right application.

All of this is an portion of a new post I just did, but I thought it would be a good reply here as well and that maybe ya'll wouldn't see the other one.
I just bought my uncle's totaled 95 Trans Am 6 speed and will soon start pirating parts from it for my stock 89 Formula 350 with 3.70 geared 9 bolt. I plan on sending the intake, fuel rails, and injectors to be converted for use on my L98 since the LT1 seems to be a hassle to install due to the front bracketry (esp the A/C which is a must here in GA) and using my stock throttle body, wiring, and TPI computer with maybe a chip change. I'm also planning on using the seats, console, and rear wing which all appear to be bolt-ins. I'm thinking that with the LT1 intake swap my stock L98 will make almost as much power as the LT1 does. My dual cat L98 is rated at 240 HP @ 4400 rpm / 345 TQ @ 3200 versus 95 LT1's 275 HP @ 5200 rpm / 325 TQ@ 2400 rpm and I think the LT1 intake & it's 24 lb. injectors, my L98 stock 48 mm TB, distributer, & compter should be about enough to make up for the difference in the HP & the RPM advantage the LT1 has. Also, my 89 L98 cam has more duration than the LT1 cam and should give me a broader power band with the same intake right? I plan on installing 1.6:1 rockers to make up for the difference in lift. (Maybe a ZZ4 cam later on).
I love the torqe my TPI motor makes, but when I test drove the TA today - wearing safety goggles to keep the broken windshield glass out of my eyes - it sure felt nice to be able to go past 4500 rpm & still feel the engine pulling. I never revved it past about 5700, but it felt like it would have went higher.

Yeah well im kinda doing the same thing as you.. Its rebuilt and bored over motor, bullit proof bottom end, but other wise stock l98 heads and cam for now. The problem is the lt1 motor likes to rev and make power up top, but the l98 doesnt. The heads and cam make power were the tpi made power. Some people have told me I might not see a huge difference until I change at least the cam and do some work to the heads. If I was you while everything is off I would pull the heads off and do some work to them. Your most likely not going to see the torque of the lt1 like the tpi had.

Slapping an entire LT1 engine into a 3rd gen is a very involving task, definitely not easier.
As for power, If the Stealth Ram can give you a 63hp increase at 5200 rpms, on a mostly stock engine (heads and cam were stock), then I would expect an LT1 intake to give very similar results. Peak horsepower went up to 240 from 213 (rear wheels), but the SR pulled strong all the way to 5200RPM while the TPI just nosedived after 4000RPM. These numbers were all taken from the Stealth Ram sticky on this board. I'd rather have the SR torque curve then the TPI torque curve.
An SR/LT1 will still be able to smoke the tires off the line, and it will be able to pull strong for an extra 1000RPM on an otherwise stock L98, once you slap in matching heads and cam, there's just no comparison.

I just got it running yesterday with open headers. No leaks or anything as of yet. The lt1 seems to have better throttle response. I havent been able to drive it yet. Once I do on a few days I will let you know how I like it.
