vortech heads / scoggin dickey intake base?
vortech heads / scoggin dickey intake base?
Does anyone have experience with this setup? I'm looking at vortech heads, scoggin dickey intake, Edelbrock or AS&M runners, ported stock base, maybe cam. Anyone wanna guess at performance increase or 1/4 ETs on a 350 w/ exhaust, cat, CAI, and free mods? I really just need more info on the setup and if it's really the way to go or not. Thanks.

bitchincamaro put this on his '89 iroc. that is his AIM name also. you can catch him over at www.fl-thirdgen.org also same name.
I was recently doing a good deal of research on the tpi base and vortec's. I came to the conclusion that it isn't really worth it because the base is so expensive. If you forget about the vortecs you can get a much cheaper manifold, I hear good things about weiand's, especially their stealth line. You can even get an EGR version for emissions. This manifold is alot cheaper and you can use traditional heads that while costing alot more then vortecs, are really not the much more when the expensive tpi base is dropped out. World products has some cheap emissions legal heads. If emissions isnt a problem Dart has some cheap stuff, and check out the Trick flow twisted wedge g2's. Anyone of those heads plus a weiand manifold should only be 200-300 more.
I have the intake and heads, I got the heads from wheeler motorsports already prepped for a high lift cam, $500. (I think they are $600 now) With full exhaust, 1.6 rockers, stock runners, and stock chip I dynoed at ~285 Hp at the flywheel. No track times yet
I am working on a custom chip and slp runners, hopefully I'll have that together soon. That will help a lot, the engine isn't breathing at its potential, it also running pretty rich.
I'll probably end up converting to a Ramjet intake in the future, I don't think the long tube set up will support what I have planned (fastburns, lt4 hc, ~430 hp) You can check out my website for a complete list of mods click me although some came after the dyno.
Scoggin Dickey is selling a TPI crate engine, it has vortecs, their intake, LT4 HC. With edelbrock runners and 52mm tb its rated at 360 hp. PN# SD360VTPI
The SDPC intake only cost $40 more than the edelbrock's and $25 less than the TPIS big mouth, I don't see why everyone complains about the price. If you are getting performance heads you'll need a better intake anyway.
Hope this helps you out. Feel free to email me

I am very happy with the results of my 305 with vortec heads and intake. The EGR and stock coil mount take some minor fabrication to make work but the end result is worth the minor installation problems.
300 hp is about right, considering thats gross hp with a tuned computer. They are fudging it a little (what manufacturer doesn't?) the rest of the set up needs to be able to support that power. Scoggin Dickey is still using those numbers on their site.
Of course, misspelling 'vortec' doesn't help them.
Here are some of the results of our initial testing of the TPI Vorecte baseplate:
Stock L98 engine with aluminum heads -250 hp
L98 with Vortec heads and TPI Intake - 300 hp
With ZZ4 cam and 1.6 rockers on the intakes - 335hp
With Hot Cam - 360hp

Bitchincamaro,
Does your EGR work on your set-up? If so, how? I thought the scoggins dickey vortec base was modeled after a corvette base which gets exhaust gas from the exhaust pipe and not the intake mainfold
I cannot seem to find any real answers except 'it should work'
