IAC adjustment problems
I've tried adjusting my minimum air a few times now and I can't seem to do it. I been following the procedure in the tech articles. My problem is after I jump the A and B terminals I wait 30 seconds then I unplug the IAC connector remove the jumper wire and start the car. The car starts but won't stay running, if I give it gas it will run but it won't idle at all. I even took the throttle body apart and with just the part of the throttle body that the IAC motor threads into, I plugged in the IAC then jumped the teminals just to verify that the IAC was working. And it appeared to work correctly, it was fully extended and seated into the bore. As soon as I plug in the IAC the car idles fine, but a little high thats why I've been trying to adjust it.
The minimum air doesn't adjust the idle speed. The computer does. Assuming a stock chip, the car will always be trying to achieve one idle speed depending on a number of variables, especially coolant temperature.
What you want to do to adjust your minimum air, is basically what you're doing there, but run the screw about halfway in. That'll keep the car running until you adjust it down. Remember to set it while the car is in drive (assuming an auto) or you may cause it to stall going into gear.
Then run the screw out until you have an idle of about 450 RPM. Put the car into park, shut it off, remove the jumper, plug everything back in. Here's where you should set the TPS voltage, since messing around with the min. air screw changes it. Set to .54 volts. Clear the memory by removing the ECM memory fuse or disconnecting the battery cable for 30 seconds.
