335 stroker
has anyone taken there 305TPI engine and got it stroked to a 335? I want to do this and was wondering how much it cost for someone to do it. If anyone has done it, could you give me some info on it, how you liked it, what else you upgraded/modded with it?
There are several people building 335 strokers here, but no dyno or 1/4mile data just yet.
If you don't get much response here, head to the dragstrip and look around for the car(s) with 335 strokers in them. Just look for guys in the pits crying and you found one.

would it be better off money wise to upgrade exhaust, heads, cam, and other stuff if I plan on sticking with my 305TPI? maybe rebuild it to handle a supercharger?
Big religious war on this subject and I'll try to avoid it, but personally I'd do exhaust and other bolt-ons that can later be transferred to a 350. When you yank the 305, I'd go with a 350 block to have the extra cubes.

The 305's small bore does not make it a good canidate for a stroker engine. The amount of money that would be spent on a stroker kit for the 305 would probably buy you internals and a block on a 350. 350 parts are cheap.

I at one time considered the 335. I'm still with the 305 and doing mods that will eventually transfer over to a 350. i.e. exhaust, intake 350TPI aluminum heads. etc.

Stroking a 305 takes an already bad engine combination and makes it even worse. But some people dont understand that, they only see that it has more displacement, and stroking a 350 works so well. Hence the big debates. But take it from KevinC and I, its not worth it to stroke a 305.

BAD IDEA BAD BAD BAD VALVE SHOURDING AND PISTON SPEED BAD!
The 305 only has one Good thing about it. It is already in your car and in good working order.
Once those two benifits no longer apply, there is NO reason to keep the 305.

dennis, i saw that guys 335 stroker over in ne boards and i immediately got excited but after much much research ive determined its not a good idea...unfortunately...
Personally i think putting that much money into a 305 is not a smart move . When you could put that same money into 350 , and be way better off . If you do make a stroker 305 its not going to ever flow air like a 350 would . Even with the small valves they are still shrouded do to the small bore .
I agree that the big drawback is the bore size. If I am not mistake a 2.00 valve is the largest you can run. Any more will hit the cylinder wall. Also, a 64cc head, like the Vortec will drop a 305's compression to below crap. Its one of those deals, I stroked it, now what.
