Comments on Motor setup
I'm planning on building a motor for my GTA. Haven't bought anything yet, But i am ready to start thrashing my credit cards.
bore and stroke my L98 block to a 383.
GM fast burn heads.
TPIS Mini Ram
What cam would work well with that combo, and should i consider other heads ( vortec ? ) will these heads flow enough to feed the 383,
I know larger injectors and Throttle Body will be needed and i'm gonna get into prom burning. I went 12.6 with a stock L98 block with the mods in my sig, i would like to do close to that on motor and then have the spray for the 11's
The car will be running N20. and will not be driven daily
also, what sort of numbers HP and torque wise will i be looking at. anybody with similar setups how do you like it.
thanx,

I too suggest the Comp Cams 306 or similar with that setup. I don't know what you are looking to spend on heads, but the AFR's are hard to beat.

the AFR's are a little pricey that's why i was looking at the fastburn or vortech style heads. with either of those to cam's how rough is the idle? Thanks for the info, any other comments on the Mini Ram or head choice
Well, the idle shouldn't be too bad with a 383. The cubes will swollow up some of the roughness of those two cams.
I know TPIS packages the ZZ409 with a 350 ZZ4 shortblock, Fastburn heads, and a Miniram II and squeezes 450HP out of it. Basically you'll have the same combo with 33 extra cubes, so I'm sure that cam would work fine with both your intake and head choice.
I also know MANY LT1 guys running the Comp Cams 306, some in a 350, but that is fairly radical. Since the LT1 intake is pretty much the same as the Miniram, I'm sure that cam would work well also.
The Fastburn heads really are a great head. Maybe do some mild cleanup if you don't have a bunch of extra cash. You can always pull them and have them professionally ported with a multi-angle valve job later on.
Good Luck. Should be an awesome motor. Definitaly right along the lines of what I'd put in my Camaro if I had no emissions concerns.

Or the miniram is the same as the LT1.
I would buy AFR heads. Just spend the extra $300 now. You will not regret it later. Also, IMO that comp cams 306 is not ideal for the AFR heads.
