Where is the cooling fan switch on a....???

I have an '88 GTA and I bought a Hypertech cool fan switch for it. Where is the factory switch located??? I used to have a '92 305TBI car and it was located on the passenger side head above the knock sensor. Am I blind or is it located somewhere else on the 350TPI cars? Please help, this car runs very hot and I want to get it installed soon, thanks guys.

on my 87 305 TPI it was on the pass side head between the back to cylinders. It was real triccky to get to. Maybe you are just missing it?????

my car does turn on one of the fans when it reaches about 235 degrees. Not sure which one though, but I know I have to have one cause the fan comes on when it should as set by the factory. I'll look again, I have headers, maybe when I crawled under there the other day I over looked it, but still, I have installed 3 of these in 305TBI cars, so I can't imagine it not being located in the same place on all the later model small blocks. If anyone has an '88 model, let me know for sure.

If it is the same on an '89 then the switch screws into the block (not head) on the pass side. It controls the pass side fan operation based on the on/off temp settings of the switch.

I am using the 176* on / 166* off with a 160* thermostat.

thanks, I guess it was the block on my old car too. a friend of mine insisted it was in the head. I will look again when I have time. oh to make sure the TPI systems are the same, does the '89 have the cold start injector valve sensor too, or was '88 the last year?

OOPS!
My bad. It is the passenger side head (not block). I just went out and looked again. Used to seeing it from underneath - hehe.

Sorry for the bad info.

on my '88 there are two sensors srewed into the manifold underneath the TPI throttle body. One is the cold start injector switch, and the other is the engine coolant temp sensor. The fan switch must be somewhere else.

You should find the switch from underneath. In between cylinders number 6 and 8. Look up past the starter from underneath.

Walkersteelhead,
I think the sensor/switch that you referenced is the sensor providing an signal to the gauge inside the car. The fan is switched by a separate switch.

OK...lots of missinformation here. THe FAN SWITCH in located in the head on the passenger side between cylinders 6 and 8. The COOLANT TEM SENSOR that the computer uses in screwed into the front of the intake manifold. the sender for the GUAGE is on the driver' side heads between 1 and 3....

I agree totally with slowiroc, I knew this all along from having owned my camaro. However, I didn't see the fan switch on my GTA on the passenger side between 6 and 8. I still have not had a chance to look again yet. My only question was, is there any other place on a thirgen that the fan switch was factory located, or only in that location between 6 and 8? Because if so, then I have a missing one.

on my 87 gta its on the Passager side head between 6-8 and on my 88 l98 recon engine it has a block off for the 6-8, so i guess thats where its suppose to be located.
