cam choice questions. LT4 Hot Cam??

L98 is coming along now, and I still need a cam. Thinking about the LT4 hot cam kit, but from what I've seen, i need the spring seats machined out and have a new memcal chip burned so the computer will act right. This is a budget buildup and don't have the $$$ for a bunch of headwork. How much is actually involved? Is there an alternative to the LT4 cam that will perfom comparably and not require all the machining? I've seen the ZZ9 being tossed around quite a bit. I plan on a head rebuild and new springs anyway, but the Hot Cam kit is too expensive in itself. And then add the machining costs to that and it's over 1000 bucks. Any help is appreciated. Thanx

the hot cam kit is a good price for what you get. getting the spring pockets opened up and the valve guides shaved to handle .525 lift wont cost that much.

What kind of intake?

If carb - should be ok depending on heads.
If TPI - it's a bit of a mis-match since TPI peaks before the LT4 HOT really starts making power.
If LT1/StealthRam - much better than TPI combo.
