Availability of Cold Start Valves
Availability of Cold Start Valves
I've been looking to find a new cold start valve because I think it will solve the hard start problem I am having but none of the local parts stores or dealers have them. I believe they told me it was discontinued. Can the be rebuilt like other injectors or are there any aftermarket options?

I thought about it but I wasn't exactly sure what mods would be necessary and also if it would be reliable. Also I don't want to spend a whole lot because the car is going up for sale. What is involved and what cost should I expect?

You've got an 88, so upgrading to the 89 setup shouldn't be difficult. If you had an 87 or older, or if you don't have VATS, then I'd say it's not really worth it.
Basically all you need to do is unplug the cold start injector and put a chip from an 89 with the same engine/trans/gear ratio that your car has. You should be able to order it from the dealer for a reasonable price. You could also buy a Moates adapter and have somebody burn you a PROM.
If you wanted to clean up your engine bay a little, you could remove the cold start injector, and remove the fuel line that's screwed into the back of the rail. I've got some caps that screw on to the back of the rail to plug the hole. This would basically be just for the sake of appearance though... there's no functional benefit from actually removing the equipment unless the injector seat is leaking.
