Tpi Intake manifold design
Tpi Intake manifold design
i just recieved the tpi system i bought on ebay. i was just wondering how i can tell which year head the intake is for. i plan on buying heads for i t but want to know which heads will fit the, 87 adn up or the 86 and previous. the center bolt holes on teh manifold are pretty much straight down. i think that means they are87 and up right? also there are also two things i cant figure out what bolts to the bottom of the throttle body? there is a whole there with like 4 or 5 bolt holes. and what is that thing that comes off the drivers rear corner of the plenum looks like almost like a funky injector but has along tube that threads into the plenum adn the other end looks like it bolts some where?

As for the bottom of the throttle body, it sounds like you're missing the IAC housing. It's held on with torx screws, this is where the IAC screws into as well.
Also, the only thing I Can think of on the driver's side is the cold start injector. There should be a hole in the intake on the rear drivers' side for it to bolt into.
HTH
You got it.
85-86 had angled center intake bolt holes. 87-up had straight holes.
If you have straight holes and a cold-start injector (basically a 9th injector on the side of the driver's side runner flange), that puts your setup at either 87 or 88, because the cold-start injector disappeared for 89.
How to tell between 87 and 88 visually? Two ways depending on how complete your setup is. 87s have the large coil-in-cap distributor and v-belt setup. So if you got even just the alternator with it the pulley should tell you. 88s have the small-cap and remote coil and serpentine belt setup. Look for the coil, coil-bracket, or the small distributor plugs on the harness to tell you it's an 88.
The holes on the bottom of the intake are for a sheet-metal shield that bolts onto it. It's not critical but it's something I'd look for if it were me.

thanks your right it is a cold start injector and is set up for 87 and up heads. can enlarge the holes to allow it to go on the older heads as long as i angle the new surface to match the plan eof the hole in the head. also i have nither the ditributor or pulleys that is pretty much all im missing, how can i determine the year is there a part number somewhere. i have the harness too can i tell my that? thanks you guess for any help.
Look at the distributor plug on the harness. The small-cap dist. has a small plug as well as a seperate lead for the coil. The large-cap dist. has a larger plug and obviously no lead for the coil since it's built into the cap.
