L98 Aluminum Heads

What year Corvette engines got the aluminum heads? Are all the L98 aluminum heads the same?

And, what seems to be the selling price of a used set of these heads?

I'm pretty sure that all the vettte L98's had aluminum heads. As for the selling price, most that I've seen for a set of used heads in decent shape is $400-$500. And then it's a good idea to have them rebuilt. By the time you have that done, you could have a set of Vortec heads fully assembled.

L98 Aluminum Corvette heads were first offered in 1986 on convertibles only. For 1987 models, all Corvettes got them up till 1991, then they changed to the LT1 in 1992 models.

Do a search on this board and you'll find all the many previous threads that have discussed this topic.

'85 & "early" '86 Corvettes have iron heads. "Late" '86-'91 Corvette L98's had the aluminum. Take a look on the corvetteforum.com message board in the C4 Parts for Sale section and you may get lucky.

Corvettes in '86 also got the 3rd brake light. Electronic climate control, ABS brakes, and convertibles weren't available until "late" '86 if you care....but as this is an F-Body board, you probably don't .

Close...

The aluminum 14101128 casting heads came out in late 1986 at the same time the Convertibles did, but all Corvettes got them from that point on. These heads were good for just a little over 300hp before you had to start working them to get more.

In 1988 GM switched the Corvette to the 10088113 casting "D-Port" aluminum cylinder heads. These were good for just over 350hp before you had to start working them.
