Slp intake runners
SLP's high flow cast aluminum TPI intake runners are the result of countless hours of dyno testing, flow bench studies and in-vehicle development. They have optimum runner volume and divider lengths to maximize airflow, and produce up to 20 additional horsepower over the stock runners depending on the application. They are cast from OE-quality, aircraft grade aluminum and precision machined for a perfect fit. These runners are an easy bolt-on upgrade for the 5.0L or 5.7L engine in 1989-1992 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette. No additional modifications are necessary. All necessary hardware and gaskets for proper installation are included along with complete instructions. They are legal for street use in all 50 states.

from thirdgen resource the following statement is quoted..
I also ported the stock upper plemun and added a set of SLP runners. This got me 8 rear wheel horse power

As nice as that propaganda sounds, it doesn't say much.
If all you replace is the runners, you'll notice no difference. If you have an aftermarket base (accel, edelbrock, TPIS, etc) and if you port the plenum to match the runners, you might notice a 15-20hp increase if the rest of your motor is breathing well.
MD showed that there are real benefits to be had, but he also worked the plenum, which is a necessity with these runners. Without it, you're wasting your time.
MD, do you still have the stock base?

Jim is right. The intake manifold itself is the biggest bottleneck in the entire system. Without doing some work to that you won't see the real gains.

maybe someone can correct me but mdformula350's car is a '92 which had cast corvette runners instead of the standard 3rd gen runners, and supposebly flowed better than the other runners. Just wondering when you ported the plenum did you siamese the plenum to match the base?

To elaborate on what Scorp said, the corvette runners flow the same as f-body runners. They have a rough-cast appearance instead of the smooth appearance that the f-body runners have, but there is little or no difference in flow.

Anyways I have the SLP Siamese runners on my ride and I think they are totally worth the money, someone on these boards labeled them as DIY runners because you have to siamese the plenum, gasket & port match the runners to the plenum & smooth out all of the roughness in the runners. So there not a direct bolt on and if you don't siamese/port the plenum then dont even bother.
Before I installed the runners I ran a 14.9 at the track, after the runner installation & installing a home made AFPR I ran a 14.4 I'm not saying the runners added 1/2 a second to my time, but they sure as hell helped. I can now rev my engine up to and shift at 5,500 rpms. It pulls very hard in the top end and I think I lost a little bottom end but it doesn't really matter when our cars are bottom end tork monsters and our cars could use more top end HP.
All in all I recommend them.

GM was at the time coming out of the crappy late 70s and early 80s corvettes with no power whatsoever. They thought that the C4 generation Corvette was going to be a 305ci engine. During drivetrain design this is what the TPI was designed around. At the last minute GM gave the nod to sticking with the 350ci engine. It was too late at this time to adapt it for the larger displacement and we got what we got. I was so happy the day I ripped it off of mine.

It also has a NX kit hanging off of it now.I hate to hijack this thread, but here are a couple more shots from when I was putting it together originally. I went with black for 3 reasons.
1. I like the look.
2. To pay homage to the Black Widow ZR1 LT5 engines and the Callaway Twin Turbo L98 engines.
3. Black dissipates heat better in a closed environment.

That SuperRam looks awesome! I personally think the SuperRam is very ugly (don't worry, I'm getting the SR plenum/runners within the next year)... think it looks like a transmission pan on top of the engine... but that black painted SR looks great! That would make me feel much better about putting it on!

I always liked how the super ram looked. The stealth ram... now that looks like ***. Of course, that'll probably be my next intake anyway. Maybe I'll paint it black.
