Call a major cam manufacturer of your choice, and ask for advice as to what cam you should have. They are usually pretty good. I have a buddy who worked for Comp, and he was pretty confident about their facilities (sales, tech, products, etc.). Also, if your car has not been messed with, then it has a roller cam. I would guess the max stock lift on your heads is .500 ( but I am not certain of that. Remember....bigger is not always better.

I'm in the same boat, looking for the right cam. At this point I like the Crane 2032 P/N 104224, the durations are right but I'd like just a touch more lift, so I think I'll get a custom grind. I hear the max lift on stock heads is 500, but I'd say that's pushing it so I'll stay at 480, slightly less on the intake.
I would call someone like Comp. Recomending cams is what they're sales personel do for a living. As for how big you can go, I would recomend airing up the cylinders and replacing the springs. you can get the GM LT1 Z28 springs(rated easily to .510 lift) w/ retainers and locks for $29.95 from CP. (Competition Products) - just a cheap insurance policy to go w/ a new cam. -
