what do u think of this IROC i need help
I found a 1987 IROC-Z in the newspaper . I call the guy it has a 5.0tpi and auto. It has about 170,xxx miles. He wants $1,500 for the car. He says the body is in ok shape a real small amout of rust and the clear coat is coming off in some place's i have not seen the car yet. It is red i know that. But is the car worth that. He says it might have a rebuilt motor. I am thinking about calling and maybe even go and look at the car. I need it for a daliy driver. Cuz my car might be geting totaled and all so. I am looking at a Mustang Gt also but i am a GM guy so. Let me know what you think.
It's a lot of miles, but if the motor was rebuilt that's a good deal. Might normally means it's not likely, though. Just see how it runs and see if it burns oil or coolant. If it runs strong and shifts well, and there's no strange noises coming from the tranny, engine, or rear end, it sounds like a good deal. Make sure it's not hacked up and will pass smog, though. You don't want to have to screw with that. If anything is wrong and you'll need to repair it, offer him less the amount you think it will cost. If you can get a fairly clean iroc for $1500 you should jump on it.
I did not like the car. It had rust on both side around the rear tires and had a dent in the door and finder. Clear coat was a miss. No ac pump. Power windows worked but slow that did not bother me. Rear tires were shot tells me the car has been raged on. Blow by that i realy did not like.Dash was craked bab but that was not new to me. cuz my 85 2.8 had that.He has to have the money to day are the car is going to the actuoin. Did not have no defrost so. Also know where a 1989 Firebird Formula is it has 156xxx miles and 2450. Have not seen the car so i don't know much about the car yet.

shot rear tires doesn't mean anything except that it's time for tires.
Rubber all over the wheel wells, well that's different.
I didn't see the car, but regardless of milage, a $1,500 car isn't going to be perfect. If it had a couple rust spots and some dents, then the clearcoat becomes a non-issue because it needs paint anyway. If it runs good and feels solid, I would say that if you could get him down to $1,000 or $1,200 that you'd be in good shape.

Oh hell, I just saw that you're in Arizona. The rust on that car can't possibly be anything worse than a little surface rust.
I am from Arkansas. The rust was almost throw on one side. The blow by is what woried me the most. But its cold here and i need defrost. But other then that clear coat realy did not bug me but just other stuff. I wish i would have had the money to get that 1991 z when i had the chance 5.7 with 140xxx miles but thats then.I am still looking. So who knows. I have always loved f-body cars since i was a kid. I would not care to have 1992 rs v-6.

I dunno. Arkansas, arizona, either way you don't have salt, so I guarantee that your car is nicer than any $1,500 car available up here. "almost all the way through" is what we call surface rust up here.
Either way, ANY cheap car is going to wind up needing a ton of work, so at least to me, it's worth paying less even if you wind up getting less. The only thing that's important to me is a solid body. Maybe your priorities are different, but if you're buying a car that cheap, my guess is that in order to make it nice, you're going to have to go through the whole thing anyway, so why pay more for one that's a little nicer?
