Cam suggestions for a bolt-on, stock headed 350 TPI?
Cam suggestions for a bolt-on, stock headed 350 TPI?
Just wondering what some of your suggestions are. The car is a 91'Z 350 TPI w/3.73's, Yank ST2800, Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers, Comp 981 springs, Comp lifters, stock TPI induction, full MSD ignition, SLP 1-3/4" headers, ORY, Mufflex 3-1/2" exhaust, TPIS AFPR, and a few BMR suspension parts.
Not looking for anything too radical, as we will be building a new motor for this car in the near future. Just something that will take advantage of the stock heads, will be highway friendly, as this car drives back and forth between Arkansas and Tennessee, and provide a good performance increase. An LT1 intake is in hand, and will be installed in the not so distant future.
Lemme know your opinions guys!

Considering price, the LT4 hot cam isn't all bad. It's far from radical, but definitely all stock heads can really handle.
Other than that, anything around that (218/224 , 0.525 w/ 1.6 rockers) or smaller would be fine.
- It was designed to work with an LT1 intake
- Those guys aren't afraid to run them with stock heads (which aren't that much better than 083s)
- Even new it's only like $180
- You can easily sell it for $50 or so when you build the new engine.

Thanks Ed.
That's kinda what I was leaning towards, but was just wondering what else was out there that was comparable.
Let's just say for comparisons sake, that I decided to stay with the stock TPI set-up, then how would that affect my cam selection?

I have the Crane 2032 cam. It is the largest cam you can get without having your heads machined. The max lift on our heads is 480. If you use this cam make sure you dont use 1.6 rockers because they will make the lift over 480. I used 1.52 rockers.

I think you may be able to use the lt4 cam w/ your lt1 intake and not have to worry about potential EGR crap. The lt4 cam negates the use of the EGR (at least thats what they say in regard to the LT4 engine, the one used in the 1996 Vettes).
