1.6 rockers on stock heads?
I was looking to get some 1.6 pro magnum rockers. I know this is an argument waiting to start, but the search tool isn't working, so here it is. The rockers are self-aligning.
Will I need a Louis Tool to get the correct valvetrain geometry or can I just use the rockers and longer pushrods?

I have used crane gold 1.6 and Comp cams roller tip 1.6 and changed NOTHING just bolt on set the pre load and run. The cars have run with no trouble for years.

Since I'm going in to change valve seals anyway, I'm considering the same thing on a 85 305 TPI, non self aligning. This would take my stock lift from .403 /.415 to .430 /.443. My concerns are:
a) Will this cause additional valve guide wear /pushrod scraping on alignment holes due to a change in valve geometry?
b) Will the HP improvement be noticeable enough to justify the cost, considering new springs and pushrods should be part of the swap also.
If this mod accelerates wear on anything, its not worth it. Brian Felts, or anyone for that matter, did you notice much change when you did the swap? Thanks in advance.

Im running Comp Cams Magnum (not Pro) 1.6 Roller Tip rockers on stock 305 lb9 heads and have no problems what so ever! The Louis Tool is used mainly for non-self aligning valvetrains.

1991 RS 305: There is no need to change your push rods. Any time you remove friction you will gain power. Yes you will notice a diff.

Thanks for the feedback guys... I do want to make one thing clear before anyone else post. I am going to be using the self-aligning rockers, and they will be the pro series.
Thanks
Thanks
Yeah, I'd be running Comp Cam Magnum roller tip also. I believe Comp recomends new pushrods to mate with the rocker surface. I've heard of guys doing this mod with the current springs, but I've also heard fresh springs is the way to go.
Brian Felts, which RPM range did you feel most gain, or was it noticeable all around. I seem to read these horror stories of accelerated valve guide wear, pushrod clearence issues, etc. I inagine some of that could be from those who did things wrong, (wrong valve lash, floating valves, spring bind, etc). Any more comments, pro / con are welcome. This seems to be a popular mod the last few years.

I have never taken my Crane Gold 1.6 over 5500 and the roller tip ones have never been taken over 5000. Naturally the gold series being full roller the gain was across the range. The roller tip ones were a gain but not as big. ANYTHING to add lift to the pitiful stock cam will help.

I think he was asking if anyone had any solid before and after data at the track. Just saying yeah, i've run 'em doesn't help much. Neither does saying you 'felt' gains across the range. #'s talk.
About the valve guide wear, yes it can happen that the new lift will push the seal onto a dirty area on the valve, and make it leak worse. If you plan on doing springs you can do seals at the same time. And springs to handle stockish lift are dirt cheap anyway, so the upgrade is worth it for the minimal work..
