looking for 11.999, how can i get there?
Alright, Ive got an 88 TPI 350 in my 87 GTA, the plans are going like this so far, stealth ram, afr 195 street/strip heads, 2400 converter, and what is a good cam for that combo? I would just really like to see and 11 second time slip so what else would it take that isnt that expensive? thanks for the help
I'll assume since you went with the stealth ram that you don't have to deal with emissions. I think a 2400 converter is too tight, I'd go with something closer to 3000 stall. Long tube headers, something like the LT4 Hot or CC305 cam, and lots of tuning.
yeah, i dont have to worry about emissions, i live in wisconsin so its also not that high altitude wise. What are the specs on either of those cams and what is another good cam? Im going to be adding these things piece by piece so what is the best order to go in? thanks
IIRC, the infamous Mike Davis runs a similar set up to what you want to build. ZZ4 short block, AFR 190's, Hot cam, Stealth Ram intake. He broke into the 11's with that set up.
The Hot cam specs at: 218/228 Duration @ .050", .525/.525 lift w/ 1.6 rockers, 112 LSA.
The CC305 : 224/230 Duration @ .050, .510/.510 lift w/ 1.5 rockers, 114 LSA.

afr 195's with good springs, long tubes, cc 305 (306 if it's not a daily driver), injectors around 36#, afpr, at LEAST a 3000 stall ( i have a 3000 in an L03 car and it ran good, so you'll want a little higher stall with more HP), 3.42's or 3.73's, and some sticky tires.
I'd do the headers and convertor first. Then start to modify the intake system either with the HSR, or SLP stuff then go ahead with the heads/cam.

alright, so who makes the best converter for the price, because im in high school so its not like i have unlimited money to spend, but this IS all that Im giong to spend my money so.... whats the best?

Don't cheap out on a convertor. I've seen a lot of B&M's and TCI's come into the shop in pieces and a few hughes' as well. I'm not saying anything bad about them, just beware you get what you pay for. We have a local guy that builds our convertors for us. I have one in my car and some of the fastest LS1's in the country have them too ( like Mikey from Rapid Motorsports). Shoot me a PM or email me if you're interested.

Don't forget suspension! 3rd gens are well known
for spinning the tread off the tires.. I don't believe
there's a stock suspension piece left under my car.

Mike D. does run in the 11's...
But ask him what he think the car would run if he hadn't been tuning, and burning his own PROM'S...
Everyone wants magic HP in a box, bolt it on and go 11's...
TUNING, TUNING, TUNING, TUNING...
Talk to ANY SUCCESSFULL NHRA Stock class racer...and he or she, will tell you the secret is in the tuning. Getting the most out of your CURRENT combo, then making changes one at a time, and then starting all over and tuning again.
That's the reason there a 500 HP engines that run 11's and 400 HP engines that run just as fast or faster.
Chassis tuning plays a huge part too... all the power in the world is great...but USELESS if you can't get it to the ground.
Like a buddy of mine..back in high school...there was this guy with a 'Stang that was deep into the 12's, with TONS of mods...he challenged my friend to a race with his pretty much stock 2nd gen Z28. So the race was that weekend...what di my friend do to win? Well, we dropped in 4.11 gears, he borrowed some slicks from his Dad, and bolted on a pair of traction bars....
Pretty funny actually...watching the Stang boiling the tires, and watching the underpowered Z launch with ZERO tirespin and leave him like he was standing still....
