Um, the oil that is recommended should be written on your filler cap. Usually it is 5W-30. Some run 10W-30 (I do), other run straight 30. A 350 is about 4.5 quarts. Buy 5 quarts, use 4, and top off with the 5th quart.

The car parts stores have a "catalog" naming the part number you should get for your car. You could try looking that up there or asking the guy at the parts counter.

This seems really odd to have to tell someone with mods what type of oil and oil filter to use.

I run the bigger, truck style 350 filter, it holds 1 qt of oil. I also run synthetic oil, Mobil 1 15w-50.

Where are you getting your filters? I have been told that PH35 and PH25 has been discontinued. I can't find them anywhere...

I agree with the mobil 1, (what year is it?)anyways, in laymans terms:THE GREEN CAP!
Screw AC Delco, I stick with a performance FRAM filter and it works great, plus it's a great filter for a great price. Just look up the size in a book at the store.

You may want to do a search on oil filters, because if I remember correctly, FRAM was rated one of THE WORST oil filters. AC Delco was rated near the top. I use 5 quarts of 10W-30 and the AC Delco PF1218 filter.

I haven't checked lately, but why would they stop making them when there are so many cars out on the road still using these filters?? Don't understand that. So what's the next best thing to use now.

I had a problem with Fram filters and I'll never run another one. I put one on my new motor to begin with. I could never figure out why it had good oil press at idle, but woud never exceed 40PSI no matter how high it reved. So after hearing bad things about Fram filters I switched over to an AC delco PF 35 using the same brand and weight of oil. Bingo, now it makes 50-55 PSI from 2000 rpm all the way to 5500 and even better pressure at idle (that 50PSI is limited by a stock type oil pressure spring). I will never run a Fram again, I've been using K&N oil filters latley.

AC changed the numbers, not sure what the new number for the PF35 is, but the new number for the PF25 is PF1218.
There was a sign at auto zone that showed the new numbers.

I will never touch a fram filter! When I replaced my fram with an AC a couple months back, my oil pressure went up at idle and under acceleration. And it didn't keep the oil clean very well- the thing is made out of cardboard!!!

My car is an '89 IROC-Z with a 350 in it. Does anyone know if the new AC-Delco part number for is it like "PF454" or something? Because I know it used to be PF35 I think. Also, is the new design shorter than the PF35? -89IRO

Yeah, chevyguy had the same problem with fram as me. Those flashy, "high-tech", bright orange filter boxes make people think they are the best. -89IRO

i have had my car for 9,000 miles now running nothing but the best, mobil 1 sythetic with a bosh filter. i went from 10w 30 to 0w 30 for the simple fact its thinner. i noticed when i changed weights that the engine revs faster then with the heavier oil and it seems to last and stay just as clean. go to www.mobil1.com and check it out. oh i have used fram filters in every car i've owned except my camaro and i never had a problem with them, i think they are alright.

Might want to reconsider that decision...

Yep, that's the website that changed my mind- then I put in an AC Delco, and then I understood why fram sucks. I think wix filters are also good. -89IRO

I am going to run a AC Delco truck filter and generic oil till break in is done. Then, I will be using Motul 10-40.

I used to run Mobil 1 in my other cars, but when I changed to Motul, I noticed a little power increase and 1-2mpg over the Mobil 1.

Surprised the hell out of me when I started getting better mileage.

Motul is a synthetic oil. Its mostly used in Europe. They are also into the open wheel racing. (Indy, Formula 1, etc.)

My shop just became a supplier for them, so what better way to product test it, than to use it in your own car.

Oh O.K., I've just never heard of it before. I'm just using 10W-30 Pennzoil right now in my 350, but next oil change I will be going with 10W-30 Castrol GTX. If I ever re-build my engine, I will go with full synthetic- no doubt about it. But for now it's just dino oil. Aren't the good synthetic companies like mobil 1, amsoil, redline, royal purple, and Lucas? -89IRO
