What gears are you currently running?
You don't want to touch the engine? Great! Get to work on the suspension.
All of this stuff will help straight line acceleration in different ways:
-Subframe Connectors
-Lower Control Arms
-Torque Arm
-Panhard Rod
-Lowering Springs (mild)
Purchased one at a time these items are relatively cheap for the benefits provided over stock stuff and this way you can improve your ET's now, and when you're ready to hop the engine and transmission up, you'll have the suspension ready to go!
If you have 3.42's go to 3.73's. If you have 3.23's go to 3.42's. The 3.23's are too tall IMO and the 3.73's are a little gas mileage trouble. I have 3.42s and plan to stay there, but it's all your personal preference.

It's a convertible so it will be auto (unless it's been swapped).
Should have the 2.73 rear drum which means you'll need to swap those gears out for some 3.42's.
And a second vote here for the Vigilante.

When you say that you dont want to go into the engine, does that meen that you dont want to do anything at all to the engine? Or just nothing major like heads, cam, pistons?

Some budget mods will make a small difference as well.
Cut your airbox(es) - free!
Get a used throttle body foil - $ 20.00-30.00
Relocate battery to trunk - $ under 5.00
Also, it should go without saying that the car needs to be in a good state of tune. So if you haven't yet, do a major tuneup to ensure all the basics are satisfied like ignition, allignment, oil & filter, transmission fluid & filter, hoses, air filter, fuel filter, tire pressure, etc. Do a search for "tomps major tuneup" it breaks everything down in detail. Very comprehensive.

Oh well then! Get some damned heads on that thing! AFR 190s should show you some serious gains and then when you are ready to proceed with internals you got the heads to reap the rewards! If you can't afford the 190's I hear Pro Lightnings are great for the buck and also World Products Torquer heads are budget focused.
