so i'm building this 355...

...and i have most of the parts 'cept for the cam. this is my first tpi engine- so i dont know all that much about them. here's what i have- around 10:1 (give or take a tad), 461x heads (2.02/1.60 valves, 64cc chambers, 172cc runners), highly ported intake and base, ported slp runners, 52mm holley tb (i know i dont need it- but i found a good deal), might swap out the ported base for an aftermarket- not sure yet though. this engine is for my s-10 (already has a 406 in it- pretty weak though- someone else built it- bought it from a swap meet for $250). it will be mainly used for the strip- but i wanna be able to drive it to and from. 2300-2500 rpm stall, 4.11 gears. there are two cams i am looking at- but i dont wanna go overboard. the cams are made by comp cams. the summit part numbers are:

cca-12-326-4
286*/286* advertised duration
236*/236* @ .050
.490/.490

cca-12-213-3
292*/292* advertised duration
244*/244* @ .050
.501/.501

thanks for the help

I want to give you a tip. Be sure on the lobe seperation on the new cam. I ran into the same quesstion and i was told to make sure the cam has 114 deg. of lobe seperation. I bought a comp cam for my engine but cant run it because my car isnt complete yet otherwise i would tell you how good it is.

Both of those cams are too big to be of use on a stock headed, stock base motor.

the heads are gm heads however they aren't exactly something i would consider to be stock. they are double hump (or camel hump) 461x heads- with a little port/bore work

They are nowhere near enough head to run that much duration with EFI. And the stock intake base is only good for 300-350hp tops (yes ported). Camming for way more than that only makes it a lot harder to tune, and will not make it go faster.

A little off topic, but you'll want a bigger convertor. Especially if you say it's mostly a street car. Go 3200

i dont know all that much about the "hot cam" but do they make them for a non roller lifter engine? i have only seen them for roller engines.
