10 degrees of timing and SLP stage II chip?
I just installed an SLP stage II chip in my Formula (see sig for mods). The timing is set at 10 degrees and the car has not been started yet. (Waiting for alternator rebuild kit and y-pipe to arrive from backorder at Summit)
I am not familiar on how aggressive the spark advance is at WOT with this chip. I would like some advice before I get the car ready to start and drive. I want to avoid finding out the hard way that it is too much!!
Thanks!

I'm running the stock 6 degrees with my SLP chip in my GTA and it's been perfect. I've tried other settings but the stock seems to work the best with the SLP chips. My Firehawk was set at 6 degrees by SLP so that should also tell you something...

I'd say it depends on what they set the base timing at in the chip. I know in my SD car, there is a base timing setting. I have mine at 8*BTDC and 8* base in the chip. I also have a pretty aggressive timing table in my chip with no problems. If you run premium and run yours at 8*-10*BTDC I think you'll be fine. later
Don't know exactly what SLP considers Stage II but I ran their 89 5.7l auto, dual cat, 49 state PROM for a while (PN 40034). It basically commanded 32.9 degs of total timing at WOT above 3000 RPM or so. Didn't have the ability to read the PROM at that time but I assume that SLP set the initial timing in the chip to 6 degrees.
I had knock retard pretty much throughout a whole pass ranging from 1-8 degs with the initial set at 6 degs. I tried 10 degs initial once but found there was too much knock retard after the 2-3 shift. All testing was done with Chevron 93 and a 180 deg thermostat. There was never audible knock since the ECM was pulling out the timing.
Try 6 degrees first. If your car can tolerate it with little or no knock retard, then bump it up 2 degs and try again. I'm gonna guess that 6 degs will be just about right though.
