FYI Superram VS large tube runners

I know this is a Corvette but the information contained in the post is interesting for F-bodies.

I have a 1986 vette with various modifications (listed in my sig) and I decided to change from the large tube TPIS runners to the Superram intake manifold. Nothing else on the car was changed other then the large tube runners to the superram. I did a before and after dyno comparison to see what the real differences were. With the large tube runners the car had 272 RWHP at 5000 RPM and 355 RWTQ at 3400 RPM. After the change the car had 311 RWHP at 4700 RPM and 376 RWTQ at 3700 RPM.
I was very happy with the 38 RWHP gain that the superram gave me and even more impressed with the torque gain that was acheived over the Large tube runners. When you compare the two runs to each other the Superram beats the large tube runner setup across the entire testing range of 2800 RPM to 5700 RPM. One other thing that I found interesting was the HP peak of both systems, the large tube runners actually peaked at 5000 RPM while the Superram peaked at 4700 RPM. I was expecting to see the Superram peak at higher RPM then the large tube runners. Both systems actually had very little drop off in power after their peaks to the test end of 5700 RPM, with a drop off of only 10 HP for both.

Overall I was very impressed with the gains of the superram over the large tubes, next I am going to change to the 219/219 superram cam and note the changes from the ZZ-9.

Good post, I think you'll like the LPE 219 cam

The cam is holding down your power curve right now. You should see your curves and peaks go north after the cam swap.

I'm a little confused. Did you use the large tube runners on the Accel base? Or did you use other runners. I have SLP runners that I ported a bit on my Accel base and I too really noticed a difference. In the SOP department, I don't have access to a dyno.

Great post, I really like the true "before and after' comparisons.
I noticed some gains when I installed my SR, but I did not dyno the car as before & after. I had too many other minor changes along the way.

About the cam, I'm thinking about a 395 as a replacement for my 350. Well, actually, I'm thinking about several major changes, a 395 with the SealthRam (instead of my SuperRam) and a new cam (instead of my ZZ9 cam).

I would like to see the 219 cam results vs the ZZ9. I may keep the SuperRam afterall.

I realized he changed from the great "TPIS" , but you might want to take a look at the flow numbers of the Accel runners with manifold vs SuperRam. Of course, extrude honing isn't cheap...but the potential is there for equal or better flow...at least based on these numbers. Anyway, glad the SuperRam is working out.

Anyone want to make any HP predictions for the 219 swap? I'm gonna say around 10WHP gain.

My estimate of the RWHP gain is 20 HP, only time and the dyno will tell.
