How to adjust Tranny cable with nonstock cable

I installed a Lokar throttel cable, bracket, and transmisison cable on my 91 formula. I have read how to adjust a stock cable, basically you just press the button and open the throttle body all the way. Now on this cable you adjust it by moving a little metal piece on the end of the cable at the TB and tightening it with a set screw. I noticed when installing the cable to the trans that ther is a a rotating piece that the cable connects to, then a smaller rotating piece connected to that, so that when you pull the cable, the smaller rotating piece stops against the body of the trans, then the larger one continues. YOu can feel this when you pull on the cable. I first adjusted in pretty loose so that the second rotating piece moved a little before it stopped out. It wouldnd shift unitl about 3000 rpm then really hard, more or less like the cable wasnt even connected. I moved it up little by little so that the second piece is at rest againts the stop with no pressure on the throttle. It seems to shift OK< but now shifts a little too soon from 1st to 2nd unless you are at WOT. Any guidelines here on how to optimize this adjustment for racing or normal operation. Don't say do a search because the search is for the stock cable. I am afraid I can damage the tranny if I dont have it right (700r4)
thanks

I was in the same boat when I got my lokar cables. I just had to fiddle with it till I was happy man. Trial and error.

I had someone hold the pedal at wot. and Id adjust the cable and take it for a spin. and go from there..
