Where is the fuel pump relay on a 1990 GTA?

It's on the firewall next to the brake booster. Should be 4 relays there. IIRC, the fuel pump relay is the one all the way on the right ( towards the pass. side). it's got two orange wires, a tan/white wire and others but I can't remember now. HTH.

I guess there is no way to tell if it is bad by looking at it? I just got my car running after doing a cam swap, new SVO injectors and other misc. upgrades. I had the exhaust hooked up yesterday, drove the car to work and back last night, and it was running great. Left for work tonight and made it about 2 miles before the car died, when the key is turned on there is no fuel pump noise, and the fuel pressure gauge under the hood is reading zero. I put a little gas in the throttle body and it fired long enough to burn what I put in there and that is all. The fuel pump is only about 2 years old, I sure hope that is not the problem, I dont want to drop that tank again! I guess the relay is a dealer item because none of the parts stores had them, any one know how much they cost?

Check the fuel pump fuse first. It's on the driver's side ( at least on my L98 t/a) near the battery. On some cars it is mounted to the fenderwell, and on others it's mounted between the radiator and the battery. Just look around in that corner and you will find it. It's a single fuse with 2 wires going to it. If you need a relay after you check the fuse, let me know. Send me a PM or an email b/c I have a few laying around.

This is a connector between the fuel pump fuse and the positive battery cable, what would cause this? The plastic above the orange wire is melted.

If it has melted the inside wire, then yes. You should be able to open that connector, or if you don't want to trust it, get a new connector just in case. In the future, when the car and plastic is older, it might not be able to keep the water out and might cause problems.

I try to fix anything that I see just for that reason.

I am really starting to think that it is my fuel pump. I called the dealer about a relay and he told me most of them are the same part #. With this in mind, I switched the relay with another one that I knew was working, still nothing. I also cleaned up the metal connections on that melted connector and plugged it back in, still nothing. I think I know what melted that also, when I was putting the driver side valve cover on it hit the back bolt on the alternator a couple times (then I disconnected the battery) The wires that go to this connector go into the wire that goes to the alternator so I dont think that is the problem with the fuel pump. Like I said the fuel pump is only about 2 years old, but I did get it at Autozone. Is it possible that it is already shot? With the new cam and 24# svo injectors it is working harder but it only ran 2 days! This is killing me, I just got the car going and had my exhaust put on Thursday and this happened Friday.

put a 12v. source directly to the gray wire on the fuel pump. if it runs, then it's good and there is something wrong in the wiring.

Just to let you know, I went through 2 fuel pumps from Pep Boys in about a week! The first one wouldn't hold pressure with the car off making it very difficult to start. I replaced it with the same thing and it lasted 2 days! That one completely stopped working and the car had to be towed home. I then bought a genuine GM pump from a dealer and had no problems with it. Eventually I repaced that with the Holley 255lph pump. It also works perfectly. After taking the tank out 4 times(ouch!), I can have it out in about an hour. Putiing it back in by yourself is a liitle trickier! Have fun, and buy something brand name, you don't want to have to do this more than once. Trust me.

Well, I guess it is the fuel pump. I put 12V right to the gray wire coming out of the tank, and nothing happened. I think I will go with the kit from www.racetronix.com , they have the GSS307M (flows up to 60 psi) and the GSS340M (60+ psi). I would like to go with the 340 since it is only $10 more, is this pump too much for my current set-up? I barely run 40 psi because of the 24# SVO's, but I do plan on nitrous in the future.

Is anyone using the 340 with just a cam and headers and AFPR?

Nevermind, I sent them an e-mail, this was the response:

The GSS340 has the same volume rating as the GSS307. The only difference is that the GSS340 has a more efficient motor in it so it will draw less power for the same given output as the GSS307. Most people opt to buy the GSS340 as it gives them room to grow if higher pressures are required. Both pumps are street pumps with the same hour-life rating
