L98 'tuneups' [?]

I have the 350 TPI L98 and am wondering, over all, if this engine makes a good candidate for custom touches, or a swap to a more recent GM engine is preferred? How much mileage is typical of advanced age (relatively speaking)?

I have under 120K on mine and it has had some mechanical problems, but it is a daily driver now and not in the best climate in the United States.

I know this a big topic, but wondering on investing in it or looking at an LT1 or something. If swapped, I'd want that as painless as possible
Thanks,

BILL

... I should say the reason I post this is that I rarely read about the L98 in car magazines so I am curious.

Tune ups???

Hi, Bill

I think that the L98 will respond to all sorts of custom "touches"
such as the free mods and others which are more involved, ex- cam changes and other internal mods, It just depends on the owner and more so on the "pocketbook" as to how fast do you want to go...... I too have a L98 it is a 92 however and it has a few minimal mods which have netted me a noticible "SOTP" improvement over stock, It is stil in storage so i can not tell you
how much "improved it is " untill May and a reading is taken with G-Tech, Nice car you have Bill take care GTA.......

I'd have to say that if swapping an entire engine is in your range of expertise, then YES, there are plenty of things that can "hop up" and L98. It depends on what your goal is of course.

I have found that just reading this site everyday has taught me INCREDIBLE amount of information. Just read!!!

-And of course....ask questions!!! and do searches!!!

im with Abubaca, ive been on here for some time and just reading you learn so much, i only have 200 or 300 posts (cant remember ) (edit: guess its 409 posts, wow, was i off) but i feel like i know as much as everybody else here.

Also, id stick with the l98 and mod it, a 350 is a 350, so unless you want an aluminum engine or more c.i., then stick with the venerable 350ci block you already got and make it better

You know guys, this topic is a lot more about modding an L98 than it is about restoration. So I'm going to move this guy over to the TPI board. Of course, I'll leave a re-direct on this post...
