Best Cam and Gear

hi all, i know its been asked a million times probly, but i want the most recent ideas and opinions on what is the best gear and cam to run in a tpi motor. I havent realy done a whole lot to the intake system yet. I have siamesed the intake base and ported the plenum. Also, the block is older block from about 72 or so, so id like to use a retrofit roller cam. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks alot
Chirs

I don't know about the cam. Alot of people like the Comp Cams XE262/268. Many people claim the 3.42 gears are the best. 3.23 or 3.73 should be could as well. It just sort of depends on if your going to drag race the car or cruise the highway. The gears can drastically effect your gas mileage.

Well, its mainly a street driven car. Its actually a 72 chevelle with an 89 tpi in it. I'm using the Holley C950 ecu to control the engine operations. The thing is, the car right now is setup for a carburated engine as far as the gear and cam go. I have 4.10 gears and a lunati 290/290 cam, which is a little big for the tpi i think, could be wrong. I know that i'm running out of power about 5000rpm or a little after.
I'm wanting decent fuel milage with my car, but will sacrafice some for a little speed, any improvement on the carbs 12mpg on the highway will be good for me.
So a 3.23 or a 3.73 gear would be good then. Would a cam with about 222/230 duration at 0.050 be a good cam, or is that too much duration for a tpi motor.
thanks all
chris

A TPI might not be very effective with a 4.10 rear gear set either. TPI usually runs out of flow at just around 5,200 RPM on a 350, even with "high-flow" runners and all the tuning.
