HEI on TPI

Hi i have an 85' Z28, w/ TPI 305. Now from factory it comes w/ an HEI but its computer controlled. I have a brand new Mallory HEI, non computer controlled w/ vacuum advance. Now can i put that Mallory distributor in? Will it mess w/ the computer. Thanks in advance.

you will get an EST (Electronic Spark Timing) code 42. i have bypassed mine using the holley annihilator ignition system. now this in itself will cause only the check engine light to come on. all else will still work. the mallory distributor is mechanical and vacuum advance. so now you can make your own timing curve. been over a year like this on mine.
