I am helping my friend with a 350 tpi on a 89 iroc and we found this connection its very similar to the est connection for timing but its behind the distributor and was wondering were this wire goes it comes out of the wiring harness right next to the distributor and then goes about another 1 or a little more feet and then just ends with a bare wire..... Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I am thinking it goes to the EGR also. I can't even remember anything else in that area that uses that type of connector if the EST is plugged in.

The MAT has a plug chillin in space there, but it's a 2 wire connecor like a CTS.
I don't rememeber the GR wire breaking randomly in a connector there, buti do have a later car so

Well i had a friend look in automotive program and it said it’s either for the Tach or the egr or even the oil pressure switch. i don’t know what the side effect would be if the ops was not hooked but i know its not the Tach because i believe that’s a white wire and goes threw the coil and the distributor so my believes are that its the egr. Any more information would also help,

Mass air temp below the plenum? oil press has 2 wires..... no connection for the EGR....
...the sensor is for the EGR valve. The main vacum line runs off the underside of the plenum on the throtlebody and goes back to the EGR solenoid by the distibutor. There is a vacum line that then runs to the EGR valve controlled by the soleniod. . On the base of the EGR valve is the EGR heat sensor which basically screws into the EGR and runs off to the terminal that you have shown. This is the single wire harness that clips together for this. The wire should originate from the back of your harness by the distrbutor and should be black in color for an 89 Iroc.

As already accurately stated above, it's the wire for the EGR temperature sensor. (If the EGR is working properly the ECM detects the change in temp.)
It's a single black wire attached to a sensor on the EGR valve, almost in the center of the intake, pointing toward the right side of the engine.
Hope this helps!

Definitely not the o2 sensor wire. I would have guessed egr, I remember seeing that connecter before.
