Custom TPI?

Has anyone ever built a custom TPI unit? I am only 20 yeas old and make horse-**** for money. Well I cant afford to buy a 2000-3000 dollar aftermarket setup. This may sound stupid but I was wondering if you'd be able to mate a custom upper plenum onto a Edelbrock lowrise dual-quad setup and have someone weld in the bungs for fuel injectors. The only reason I am asking this is because if you look at all the aftermarket intakes they have this same basic design. So if this idea sounds really stupid don't be afraid to tell me. I do know it would be far cheaper to build.

The Holley Stealth-Ram is only like $500...just re-use your TPI stuff.

the HSR is basically a dual quad set up that has a plenum on top. Please do a search.

project j: I'm currently doing an HSR swap on my '89 Iroc. Mine's also black. If you have any questions, just let me know. I can fill you in on all the part #'s on everything you need, which isn't much. It cost me a total of $522 to buy it, and ship it overnight air. I can't remeber which magazine, but, someone did a swap from stock TPI to HSR and picked up .5 in the 1/4. It was a '91-Z, which is a speed density car, but, still. It went from 14.4 to a 13.9x.

thanks for all the great info I'm a little new to this site. I Had only seen one price for the HSR and it was in a summit magazine I didnt have time to read on the HSR but saw the price and nearly had a heart attack I didnt realize it was for "everything" It really makes me feel better knowing that I can get it for under 600. I have 383 that I was going to use the TPI on but I wanted to get more top end power out of it so I was going to switch to carb but now that I have seen the price I've changed my mind Thank you all again. Hey badbowtie88 that article was in a Chevy High Performance that was the first time I saw it and thats what sparked my interest. It would be a great help if you gave me a list of the parts that are needed, and tell me how it works out!

Thanks again,

Johnny

List:

1 HSR Plenum and base: I purchased mine at RPM Motorsports. They are the only ones who aren't back ordered. Plus they have great service.

1 Fuel rail kit to fit HSR. Depends on if you want the adjustable regulator. If you do the part # is 534-186, if not #534-185. I would suggest going with the adjustable. No price difference.

1 Female 14mmx1.5 Fuel Injection O-Ring Seal part #9894DBH
Ordered from Summit. Has them in stock $7.99

1 Female 16mmx1.5 Fuel Injection O-Ring Seal part #9894DBH
Also from Summit. Has them in stock $7.99

You will have to have some fuel line made if you want to just hook up and go. The stock line won't reach to the back of the intake where the lines go. Unlike the front on the stock TPI unit. Just get the Seals pressed on the fuel line. Shouldn't cost too much to get that done. If you have the Seals, Oreilly's can press them for you. So far that's it. I forgot to order my Seals, so I have to wait til Wed to finish up. As soon as I do, I'll let you know if I encounter any probs or tricks and hopefully post some help.

Yup. I bought a Holey Stealth Ram. Started piece by piece. Costed alot on the end but it's better over time. Bought the plenum and manifold, then fuel rails and regulator, then TB and injectors, then the appropriate gauges. Costed little over a grand.
